Authenticator showing a notification when there are none.

There is a constant 1 marking a notification on Authenticator when there are no notifications. How do I get rid of it.

Menu

Settings

Autofill

Sync Account - turn off.

Exit the app

Go back to Sync Account and turn it back on.

I am also getting this on iOS 18 iPhone 16 Pro Max. I just updated my password and now I can no longer get this notification to go away. There are no new updates for the app at this time. I have removed the app and redownloaded it and the icon is still there once I restore from backup. I would very much appreciate if someone could look into this.

I'm having the same problem (authenticator app shows a notification when there isn't one and no matter what I've done it won't go away.) on my apple 14 pro running iOS 18.0. I looked to see if I could find the app version, but was unsuccessful. I can say the app is up to date.

The notification would not go away no matter what I tried. the post above worked where I forced a code by going to an MS website and logging out then when I try to log back in an Authenticator code popped up and the notification disappeared.

Managed to clear mine. I logged in and when prompted is this you, yes or no, said no, I then logged in again straight away and said yes and entered the number, bingo, notification when away and all sorted.

I found that by going to iPhone Settings and Notifications, you can turn off the notifications for Authenticator, and then you can check the 1 update in the app icon is gone. However, when you return the Notifications back on for The Authenticator app, the number 1 update appears on the app icon again.

Here’s how I fixed it: i checked apple store if app needs to be updated > yes, so i updated it > then i opened the app > menu > “check for notifications” > then the annoying notification number just disappeared. Hope this helps

Any one with a coat of arms as a profile should not be dismissive of a solution but be grateful and a thank you can suffice. In reply to your analogy, keeping banners on for authenticator is like using your CO monitor in an unsheltered outdoor space ie not necessary. Thank you Sir Winalot.

Turning off badges does not disable the banner notifications that pop up on your screen that want you to click on them to approve it only removes the notification symbol from the app on your home screen. I don't find this to be a problem since I normally know when it's asking for 2FA since I am initiating the request or have a page displaying a number to enter onto my 2FA anyway. This works just fine for me and I still get the banners so I'll use this until it gets fixed. I may also never turn on badges because if I didn't notice the banner the login attempt has likely expired anyway.

Hello,

You did not provide any information about the device or the version of the authenticator that you are using. It would also be good to provide stuff that you already tried.
Here are some actions that you can try to get rid of it:

Check for application update on App store or Google play store
You can go into your Authenticator account and click on Reset device notification after which you will need to restart the application
Clear the app cache (note that this will reset the app, and you may need to reconfigure it)
Restart the device
Reinstall the application

Hope some of this actions will help.

I am using Galaxy S24Ultra, my friends got this problem also. at about first 30 times the code appears quickly BUT it delay after that until no thing happen. In my work case, login up to 200 times is a big problem.

You can go into your Authenticator account and click on Reset device notification after which you will need to restart the application
Where would that be?

Bad advice. I've got about 20-25 MFA pairs, professional. They are not backed up so I would need to ask the organizations who are holding the auth to reset it.

None of this works. The badge app is still there. The only solution is to deselect badge icons in notification. Until Microsoft take ownership of the issue and fix their buggy software I do not advise you to take this advice and waste your time trying to fix their problems for them. In the meantime I would not rely on Authenticator as a safe piece of software. I only use it for work, otherwise I would delete it

Hi, I have the same issue: “Authenticator showing a notification when there are none.”

Yesterday I had reset the app AND as a result, I lost the recovery, which is another problem now 😅

Despite that the Authenticator app was empty and no account, I still have the notification.

please advise

Tried turning off badge display, rebooting ( iPhone 16 with 18.01) then this comment, going to apps and there was a waiting update. Cleared up the notification dot.

resetting all my accounts is giant pain in the ass just to try and get rid of a ghost notification. I will wait till those jack wagons in Redmond fix it. I shouldn’t be wasting my valuable time trouble shooting what they should be.

Just turn off banners till it’s fixed.

Seems to be a iOS18 bug. I solved it by force logging out and back in of a website requiring a challenge and it cleared the notification.

Fixed today just moments ago. I did what StueyJF above suggested only I didn’t turn it back on. I just had update 6.8.16 and the. After that turned it back on. Now it’s gone!

Same issue here in the UK since updating to IOS18, but only on my works phone (iPhone XR), working fine with my personal 15Pro.

Tried the first option, nothing happened, I've switched of the notification in the app within system for now, it cleared, cam back when I turned it back on, therefore switching off for now. Going to see if I still get an app notification tomorrow when I log back in to my works laptop and prompted to authenticate.

I spoke to our IT team and they said to try swiping down from top of page you will see a notification for Authenticator delete it, mine wasn't showing any, perhaps it might work for you guys.
