Hi Ranjith Velamala
You can check the status of your VM agent using:
Get-AzureRmVM -ResourceroupName "Your-resource-group" -Name "VM-name" -Status
VM Agent unresponsive
Hi Team,
We are facing frequent issues where the VM agent is going into an unresponsive state, which is causing login problems for the VM. After restarting the VM, the agent becomes responsive, and we are able to log in.
- Is there a way to monitor or set up alerts when the VM agent becomes unresponsive?
- Are there any other ways to resolve this issue without having to restart the VM (both for Windows and Linux)?

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A platform.
Based on your question description we understand that your VM agent is getting sometimes unresponsive.
Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
- It Could be issue with the image that is being used for deploying this VM.
- Check if there are any network or firewall issues that could be causing the VM Agent to be unable to communicate.
- Make sure the VM is not in a degraded performance state. If the VM is experiencing performance issues, it could be that the VM Agent is unable to report its status.
One of the most common monitoring requirements for a virtual machine is to create an alert if it stops running. The best method for this is to create a metric alert rule in Azure Monitor. You can create an availability alert rule for a single VM using the VM Availability metric to create a single rule that will apply to all virtual machines in a subscription or resource group in a particular region.
