HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop only displays 30 FPS when on battery, but 60 FPS when plugged in. How do I fix this?

Recently, I've started noticing my computer's screen being very choppy. It wasn't until I plugged my laptop in, that my screen had been displaying things smoothly. This only ever occured on games, but until now I never had this problem. I was able to run different programs on my computer at 60 FPS before, but now most of them had only been running at 30 FPS. I checked NVIDIA control panel to cap my frame rate and battery settings,

(Manage 3D Settings > Max Frame Rate > 60 FPS)

(Manage 3D Settings > Power management mode > Prefer maximum performance).

None of these have worked.

Does / Has anyone ever had the same problem? If so is it fixable? Thanks!

    Hello,

If your HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop is displaying a lower frame rate when on battery power compared to when it’s plugged in, it’s likely due to power management settings that are designed to conserve battery life. TSome settings you could try to check this issue:

    Change Power Plan Settings:

Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.

Click on “Change plan settings” next to your current power plan.

Click on “Change advanced power settings.”

Expand the “Processor power management” settings and then “Maximum processor state.” Make sure it’s set to 100% on battery.

Expand the “Graphics Settings” or similar if available and set it to maximum performance on battery.

    Save the changes.

    Windows Graphics Settings:

Go to Settings > System > Display > Graphics settings (at the bottom).

Browse for the game or application executable and add it to the list.

Click on the application in the list and choose “Options.”

    Select “High performance” and Save.

Check Battery Settings in HP Software:

Some HP laptops come with their own power management software that can change performance settings.

Open HP Command Center or similar HP software and look for any battery or performance options that might be limiting FPS.

    Best Regards,

    Hania Lian
