Windows 7 connects to a USB device without error.

Device manager shows a working usb to serial com port.

Apps can communicate with the device through the com port.

Windows 10/11 does not connect to the USB device.

Device manager show a com port with errors.

CMD Mode displays no com ports.

USB device viewer reports 0 pipes open.

I have spent a week scouring the internet for a solution. None found.

Action taken:

Uninstall the driver.

Restarted the computer.

Installed the driver.

Connected the device, The error persists.

Searched for a tool that display what pnp was doing and why it failed.

None found.

Found and installed inf2cat.exe.

inf2cat.exe mchpcdc.inf 10_X64

No change.

    Hello,

1、Check Device Manager to see if the device is recognized but perhaps has a warning icon indicating a driver or resource issue.

Right-click the Start button and select ‘Device Manager’.

Look for your device. It might be in ‘Other devices’ or ‘Ports (COM & LPT)’ if it’s recognized as a serial device.

If there’s a warning icon, right-click the device and select ‘Update driver’. Choose to search automatically for updated driver software or browse your computer for driver software if you’ve downloaded the latest version from the manufacturer’s website.

2、Sometimes, the USB controller drivers can be the issue. Try updating the USB controller drivers from Device Manager.

In Device Manager, expand ‘Universal Serial Bus controllers’.

Right-click each USB controller and select ‘Update driver’.

3、If the device expects to create a virtual COM port, ensure that any associated virtual COM port drivers are installed. For example, devices using FTDI chips require specific VCP drivers.

    Best Regards,

    Hania Lian
