Hello,

We are in the process of migrating approximately 500 Windows 10 machines to Windows 11 24H2. The migration itself has gone smoothly so far.

However, we are encountering an issue when attempting to install the November Cumulative Update (CU KB5046617) on our Windows 11 24H2 test machines using SCCM.

Here are the details:

  1. After downloading the November CU (KB5046617), I reviewed the deployment folder and noticed that the size is significantly larger compared to previous CUs for Windows 10. The folder size is approximately 8 GB. Could you clarify why the folder size for this CU is so large?

We are facing a problem with downloading this CU on our Windows 11 test machines. While the CU appears in the Software Center, the download remains stuck at 0% for an extended period before failing with error code 0x80D02002.

Could you assist us in troubleshooting this issue?

Thank you very much for your help!

Best regards,

Izanagi

    Hi,

Finally It seems better with the registry key.

Download is done to the computers and only the necessary files (about 1go)

But sometimes the installation triggers after several reboot.

So it's better but not completely fixed.

And I still don't understand why size of downloaded file from WSUS to DP are about 8Go given only 1Go are used ... and no improvement when removing the November CU (KB5046617) completely and then re-downloading it.

    Best regards,

    Izanagi

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.

1,I have also downloaded the November CU (KB5046617) in my test lab, the size is about 1 GB, the same as the size in Microsoft Update Catalog. Could you please verify whether the folder in your environment also contains any unrelated files or not?

    update catalog

2,Please help review the WUAhandler.log, ScanAgent.log and UpdatesDeployment.log, and let me know if there are any errors.

3,Similar thread just for your reference:

Some users solved the problem by applying a registry workaround (UpdateServiceUrlAlternate = http://localhost:8005, under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate).

I look forward to hearing from you to assist further.

    Best regards,

    Simon

    Hi,

    Much appreciate for your information.

How about removing the November CU (KB5046617) completely and then re-downloading it again? Make sure the update is distributed to your distribute points.

    Best regards,

    Simon
