Customer are complaining that Emma (en-US-EmmaNeural) has changed.

We understand that Azure updates their voices all the time and this is something we have to accept in using the Azure TTS functionality.

But after some investigations, we think that this is not simply a voice update but a bug in the Azure functionality for the following reasons:

  1. The new voice Emma sounds like a completely different person
  2. The Azure voice gallery audio sample for the Emma voice still sounds like the Emma voice we are used to
  3. The multilingual version of the Emma voice still uses the original voice
  4. The problem only affects Azure US East 1. I tested it on US East 2 and Emma's voice is still like it was before

Is there a reason why we see a discrepency between US-EAST and US-EAST-2?

    Hi Simon-Pierre Tessier,
Greetings & Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum! Thank you for sharing your query.

I'm sorry to hear that experiencing issues with the Emma voice in Azure TTS.

Regarding the discrepancy between US East1 and US East 2, it’s possible that differences in the underlying infrastructure or software across regions may be impacting the performance or behavior of the Emma voice in US East 1.

To address this issue effectively, we recommend raising a support ticket with Azure. Please include detailed examples, such as audio samples highlighting the discrepancies, and specify that the problem is isolated to US East 1. This will help the Azure support team investigate and resolve the issue promptly.

Hope this helps. Do let us know if you have any further queries.
