Error 0x80070005: Access denied. The requested action requires elevated privileges.

I have tried multiple ways to try and activate windows server 2016 standard, but every time I try it appears with the message "Error 0x80070005: Access denied. The requested action requires elevated privileges."

I try

  1. CMD with administrator right - slmgr.vbs /ipk xxxxxxxxx
  2. PowerShell with administrator right - slmgr.vbs /ipk xxxxxxxxx

Any expertise can help me on this. Thanks.

    Hello Alan Wong5,

this error code usually caused by the User Account Control (UAC) prohibits activation processes from running in a non-elevated command prompt window. To resolve it, you can try the following steps:

    1. Open the Start menu and search for Command Prompt.
    2. Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
    3. In the command prompt, run the command:
       slmgr.vbs

    Hope it helps.

    Kind regards,

    Lei

    Hi Lei

Yes, I'm always using the right-click Command Prompt and selecting 'Run as administrator,' but it still shows the same error. Anyway, thanks for answering my question. I managed to activate the OS by turning off some services in Task Manager.

    Alan

    Hello,

maybe you can try a phone activation. For the details about it, you can see Volume License Key Phone Numbers | Microsoft Volume Licensing.
