Trying to use the SCR3310v2 CAC reader on Windows 11. I've been told by other users that they can use it just by plugging it in, no InstallRoot required. They even said that middleware can mess it up.

I bought a different one months ago and fought it for a bit at first, then gave up. Can't remember if I installed any middleware from it and I'm not sure how I could check that.

Tried to access a work portal that requires login info or a CAC and I get "no client certificate presented". Tried to access work email and it says "certificate validation failed".

In the Setup information file I got from the card reader website, it gave this for my specific one:

;;========For SCR3310V2=========

[SCR3310V2_CCID.NT.AddReg]

HKR,, IFDType,0,%PCSC_CCID%

HKR,, VendorName,0,%Mfg%

[SCR3310V2_CCID.AddReg.HW]

[SCR3310V2_CCID.NT]

CopyFiles= PCSC_CCID.NTCopyFiles

AddReg= PCSC_CCID.AddReg, SCR3310V2_CCID.NT.AddReg

[SCR3310V2_CCID.NT.HW]

AddReg= SCR3310V2_CCID.AddReg.HW

[SCR3310V2_CCID.NT.Services]

AddService = SCR3XX2K,0x00000002,PCSC_CCID_Service_Inst,PCSC_CCID_EventLog_Inst

;;===========================

I don't know what any of this means. Is it something I need to do?

    Hello

    Thanks for posting in the Q&A forum.

    Install the correct SCR3310v2 driver

    The "Device requires further installation" error usually means that the driver for the SCR3310v2 card reader was not installed correctly.

    To install or update the driver:

    1. Download the correct driver:

    Visit the official SCR3310v2 driver page, or download the latest CCID driver on the PCSC (Smart Card) driver page.

    1. Install the driver:

    If you downloaded the driver installation package, run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions to install it.

    If there is no installation package, you can manually install the driver through the Device Manager.

    To install manually through the Device Manager:

    1. Open the Device Manager:

    Press Win + X, then select Device Manager.

    1. Find the device:

    Find the SCR3310v2 device under Smart Card Readers or Universal Serial Bus Controllers (if it is not correctly identified, it may be displayed as an "Unknown Device" with an error sign).

    1. Update or install the driver:

    Right-click the SCR3310v2 device and select Update Driver.

    Select Automatically search for updated drivers, or select Browse my computer for drivers and manually select the driver folder you downloaded.

    1. Restart the computer to ensure that the driver is successfully installed and effective.

    Check if middleware (such as InstallRoot, ActivClient, etc.) is installed

    In some enterprise environments, middleware such as InstallRoot or ActivClient is required to manage the certificates of CAC cards. If these middleware are installed on your system, they may conflict with the default Windows drivers.

    Check if the middleware is installed:

    1. Check installed software:

    Open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features or Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.

    Look for CAC-related software, such as InstallRoot, ActivClient, or other smart card management software.

    1. Uninstall possible conflicting middleware:

    If middleware such as ActivClient or InstallRoot is found, try uninstalling them and then test whether the card reader works properly. Sometimes these software will overwrite the default Windows drivers, causing conflicts.

    I hope the above information is helpful to you.

    Best regards

    Runjie Zhai
