Hey,

We have a very old win 95 machine that runs a robot.

We wanted to know if anyone can help us setup an smb file share between a win 95 and win 10/11

so far we created a shared folder on the win 95, and shared it across the network.

the win 10, partially connects to the point that it asks me for a username and password. but we don't have anything setup on the win 95.

for the file share, we set a password, but there is no username.

would anyone be able to help me complete the connection,

Thanks!

    Hello,

Windows 95 uses an earlier version of the SMB protocol, so you will need to enable SMBv1 on Windows 10. You can enable SMBv1 by following these steps:

    1. Open the Control Panel.
    2. Click "Programs".
    3. Click "Turn Windows features on or off".
    4. Check the checkbox next to "SMB 1.0/CIFS file sharing support".
    5. Click "OK".

    Regards,

    Karlie

So I've enabled that. But when I try to connect from win 10 to win 95. It asks me for username and password.

But in win 95, it only has me setup a password, not a username. Am I missing something?

When setting up file sharing on Windows 95, by default, the system uses the credentials of the currently logged on user as the credentials to access shared resources.

How do I find those credentials?

I've been looking. We set a password, but we never set a username.

The default user credentials are the local user currently logged on to windows 95.
