I've installed a fresh copy of WHS 2011 but I can't get Windows Update to run or reach any Microsoft sites in IE.

Can anyone help ?

I realise this is the case but there would have been numerous patches prior to this. I would have thought they would still be available to update to that stage. Not all the patches would have been security patches. Some would have been to improve performance, stability, etc. How can I get access to these patches?

    Check the following aspects:

Internet Explorer Issues: If you cannot access Microsoft sites in Internet Explorer, it might be due to outdated security protocols. Try accessing the sites using a different browser like Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. If you must use Internet Explorer, ensure that TLS 1.2 is enabled in the Internet Options under the Advanced tab.

Check for Malware: Ensure that your system is not infected with malware, which might be blocking access to update sites. Run a full system scan using a reliable antivirus program2.

Network Configuration: Verify that your network settings are correctly configured. Sometimes, incorrect DNS settings can prevent access to update sites. You can try using a public DNS server like Google's (8.8.8.8).

    Hi,

I have tried all you have suggested and still no resolution.

I cannot find any downloads in the Update Catalog, searching for Home or 2011

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks , Kenny.

    Hello

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

It sounds like you're having trouble with Windows Update on a fresh install of Windows Home Server 2011. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Check Date and Time Settings: Ensure that the date and time settings on your server are correct. Incorrect settings can cause issues with Windows Update.

Update Internet Explorer: Since you mentioned that you can't reach any Microsoft sites in IE, try updating Internet Explorer to the latest version supported by Windows Home Server 2011.

Run Windows Update Troubleshooter: Use the built-in Windows Update Troubleshooter to identify and fix problems with Windows Update. You can find it in the Control Panel under "Troubleshooting".

Check for Corrupt Files: Run the System File Checker (sfc /scannow) to check for and repair any corrupt system files. This can sometimes resolve issues with Windows Update.

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files - Microsoft Support

Manually Install Updates: If Windows Update still doesn't work, you can manually download and install updates from the Microsoft Update Catalog website.

    Microsoft Update Catalog

    Best Regards,

    Wesley Li
