Windows Server 2022 — DC unable to view other computers in Network Discovery.

Hi everyone.

I have an interesting one.

I have a domain controller, which is also functioning as a DNS and DHCP server.

However, none of the computers, other than one non-domain computer is showing up, in Network Discovery.

I've gone through the more common troubleshooting methods of ensuring that everything that needs to be enabled and running is running, as per this link, and I was able to partially solve the problem; at least to the point where Network Discovery would stay on, but only discover non-computers. For example TVs, routers and anything else that is connected to the network is now being discovered, except for the computers themselves.

Server manager has no problem recognising the other servers, but just not Network Discovery.

If I sign into a non Windows Server PC — I can see all of the computers that I should be able to see, but not on a Windows Server computer.

I've ran the network adapter and network folder troubleshooter, and niether experience any issues accessing computers — giving the summary that the computer exists on the network, but it can't be accessed.

I'm keen to know if this is something I can solve as a group policy, as this appears to just effect the computers running Windows Server.

I've seen a couple of forums discussing VPNs and their influence on other people having similar problems. On that note, I did install OpenVPN last week, however, only noticed the problem today (whether or not related, I don't know), and subsequently uninstalled OpenVPN, but things are not how they were.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi everyone.

I have a Windows Server 2022 VM (through proxmox) running as a DC, and DNS and DHCP server.

However, within the last week, it no longer sees any computers, except for itself, tsclient (as expected), and a non-domain computer, but just one non-domain computer. It is one of many that are configured the same, but it is the only one that is seen by the DC.

I have a few other VMs on the same physical machine, all of which face the same problem.

Other standalone PCs running Windows Server 2022 also have the same problem.

I have followed this link, enabling what needed to be, which allowed everything but computers to be shown on the network — TVs, routers ecetera, but not computers.

I have seen that VPNs can sometimes influence this, as I've seen others with similar issues, and within the last week, I have installed OpenVPN, but not configured it. However, I did uninstall it. Whether it was the cause or not, the issue has not resolved, and I'm starting to scratch my head as to why.

I've ran a couple of Windows troubleshooters which seem to universally conclude that the target computers exist but are unaccessable, unless it's a remote connection, or from Server Manager. Very helpful I know!

I'm wondering if it is a group policy thing, but even then, I don't know where to start.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks very much.

    Hello,

Based on my understanding of your issue, I suggest you try the following methods to see if they work.

Open Computer Management -> Services and Programs, find the "Services" menu, find the "Computer Browser" service on the right, select "Start" for startup type and service status, and then restart the computer.

I hope the above information can help you!

    Best regards

    Zunhui
