I just bought a new PC and am trying to connect to another computer by sharing on private network. My old computer was connected to the network and I have turned on network sharing etc and turned off password protection on new windows 11 computer.

I have changed manual to automatic on the 4 items recommended under services.msn

The windows 10 computer sees my windows 11 computer under network

How do i see the windows 10 computer in network on my windows 11 computer so I can connect by ethernet to Quickbooks as my old computer did.

Do I need to up date all computers to windows 11, same versions?

Can you provide a screenshot of the error message about being unable to access the network drive?

Hi, this is the error message I get when trying to access a file which is located on the Windows 10 laptop from the Windows 11 laptop. Please remember in the original question asked, there was no problem accessing files on the Windows 11 laptop from the Windows 10 laptop which is the situation I am also in.

I had a similar problem. The Win 10 computer could see the Win 11 in network and connect to it. The Win 11 computer could connect to my Win 10 using the \computername but it only showed my router in the network. After hours of troubleshooting settings on both computers to no avail, I finally deleted my Win 10 computer's network card (updating the driver had no effect) in device manager. On restart Win 10 re-installed the network card and the Win 11 computer could now see the Win10 in the network, and everything now works as expected. I do not know if this fixed some errant setting in the network adapter or if there was driver corruption, but it is an easy thing to try if the solution is not obvious.

    Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft support. Based on the information you have provided, it seems that the mapped drive is not showing up on the network computers. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Check if the network discovery is turned on for all the computers on the network. To do this, go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change advanced sharing settings > Turn on network discovery.
    2. Make sure that the mapped drive is shared with the correct permissions. Right-click on the mapped drive and select Properties > Sharing > Advanced Sharing > Permissions. Make sure that the appropriate users or groups have the necessary permissions to access the mapped drive.
    3. Check if the firewall is blocking the mapped drive. Make sure that the firewall is configured to allow file and printer sharing. To do this, go to Control Panel > Windows Defender Firewall > Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall > Check the box next to File and Printer Sharing.
    4. Try accessing the mapped drive using the IP address of the file server instead of the hostname. For example, instead of typing \servername\sharedfolder, try typing \192.168.1.1\sharedfolder.

I hope these steps help you resolve the issue. Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

    Regards,

    Zunhui

I also have the same problem. I think the answer is missing the point - how can you map a network drive if you cannot establish a connection between the two computers bi-directionally, I have gone through all of the suggested troubleshooting steps with no resolution to the problem. I did move forward slightly with using the IP address to map a drive, but then ran into access permissions prpblems - I am logged into both laptops with the same account and admin rights so am at a loss as to where to go from here.
