Black Screen Remote Desktop Error Code 0x3 Extended Error Code 0x12 Windows 11 Pro

Hello,

I couldn't find anyone else on the Internet having the same error/extended error combination.

The problem generally is solved after a reboot of the remote machine but it comes back after a while with black screen for a couple of minutes and then it exits with:

[Expanded Information]

Error code: 0x3

Extended error code: 0x12

I already tried to deactivate bitmap caching and UDP, lower down resolution, etc.

I'm running the last build of Windows 11 Pro on both machines with all updates installed.

Any clues?

Thanks.

    The local PC is a Microsoft Surface Go 2 while the remote PC has an Asus TUF 3080 Ti.

    Restarting the remote desktop service on the remote PC doesn't solve the issue, just a reboot does.

    Dear Yuri_Gagarin,thank you for the informations;

    In that case I suggest you do all pending updates on Windows Update;

    Press Windows key + i and go to Windows Update;

    Click Check for updates and do ALL pending updates;

    Update apps from the Microsoft Store;

    Open the store and click Library;

    Click Get Updates and wait until all apps are updated;

    Do a clean install of the NVIDIA drivers;

    Download and Run Driver Package for NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 TI > https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.a...

    Follow the onscreen instructions until you get the Installation Options window;

    Select the Custom (Advanced) box and press Next;

    On the next screen, you will be able to choose the components to install (all should be checked by default and if you're not sure, leave them that way);

    In the Select driver component table, check the Perform a clean installation box and click Next;

    run a disk cleanup;

    Press WIndows key + R and type: cleanmgr press Enter;

    Click Clean System Files and wait for the files to load;

    Select all items and click Ok to delete them;

    Do a clean boot;

    Press the keys: Ctrl+Shift+Esc to access the task manager;

    Click Startup and disable all programs that start with Windows;

    Restart your PC and check if the problem is fixed;

    I tried all other suggested solutions without success. However, today I simply uninstalled Windows Remote Desktop App on the host PC and magically I could connect to that PC without a black screen.

    Why would uninstalling the very component I had been trying to use fix the problem - NO IDEA - ask Microsoft!
