Windows 11 update 24H2 changes network access

I have two pc's that are almost identical hardware, with W11 Home, but one has not yet updated to 24H2 while the other has.

The apps links shown on the bottom of this image are not present on the 24H2 version, which is a retrograde step as finding the settings app should be easy..

Annoyingly the 24H2 update seems to have broken the network sharing, and finding advanced sharing settings to enable file transfer isnt easy.

Its been working until this morning, but now I'm unable even to see other devices from the "un-updated" machine.

Not only NO but hell NO. I can play with settings for a bit, see all the shares, then boom next time I look they are gone. MicroTurd broke something that was working very well. If someone has a real answer that will not insult my 24 years of Windows intelligence and experience, please post. Else going to wait for fixes to 24H2, a total POS.

I have been working with computers from 1967, longer than you, I think. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

All I did was trying to work around the current bug that MS added, while I wait for their fix.

My network works fine for now.

    You are on your own.

Good luck waiting for MS. They have unresolved problems with the network that have been going on for years. 🀬

    @GazzaGDBB,

Hello there, I solved my problems with the 24H2 network, I'm now up and running 4 different PCs with Build 26100.2152 and my network works correctly.

See the edit on my last post of Oct 19 on Page 2.

I had a couple of issues that I described, but now I got both corrected. πŸ‘

My home network has a mixture of PCs with Windows 11 23H2 and 24H2 and also Windows 10.

I can now share file on all of them without problem.

I also heard of another issue that affects users with local accounts without password, (Insecure Login) but that is described in another thread.

I use local accounts too, but all with Passwords and PIN, and that problem is not affecting my network. πŸ˜‰

What my problem is that my own Windows 11 computer does not show up under the Network Icon and only 1 of my other two Windows 10 computers does.

What my problem is that my own Windows 11 computer does not show up under the Network Icon and only 1 of my other two Windows 10 computers does.

One of your problems has been there and reported over 2 years ago and MS never bothered fixing.

It caused by a timing issue with FDResPub starting before the network is actually ready.

The workaround for that specific problem is to Restart FDResPub.

Here it shows this other PC which is a Windows 10 Build 19045.5070, but does not show the local Windows 11 PC.

As for your second Windows 10 PC not showing try to compare the settings with the one that works.

I only have one Windows 10 PC left and I can see it just fine from the 24H2 PC. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

After restarting FDResPub the local computer shows up fine.

The problem is even worse with Canary Build 27729.1000. In this case The PC will not show up anywhere until I restart FDResPub.

To work around this issue, I prepared a batch file to restart that service when I need it. MS had this problem for over 2 years and never replied to the FBH reports. 😝🀬

I can issue the 2 commands from an elevated CMD prompt or just run the batch file below as administrator.

And here are all my 6 PCs on my network. All 6 accessible for the one shared folder that was setup on each one. πŸ˜‰

I also share my old USB HP printer that is connected to my everyday PC.
