PC freezing out of nowhere

Hello, i seek for some help. I boot my PC every evening, so i can not test it during the day. BUT! My PC always freezes one time during the evening session. The problem is, i don’t know, what causes it. It may freeze instantly when i just click mouse button, it can go well for an hour and then freeze. I can even spend 4 hours of playing and then it freezes and i have to hard reset it.

Here are stock specs:

“Lenovo Legion T5 28IMB05”

CPU: Intel Core i5 10400 Comet Lake 2.90Ghz / Core boost 4.3Ghz (6 cores)

GPU: NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1660 Super 6Gb

DDR4 16Gb 2933Mhz

Motherboard some Lenovo 3717

SSD 1Tb

Win 11

I am no PC brain and had a budget back then, so i bought built PC 4 years ago. When i first started to use it, everything went smooth and fast. But after some NVIDIA GPU update it started freezing. (Did not think it can cause that, never had problem with Nvidia driver updates in the past). So i called to store, they took it for a month. I assume they did clean reinstall. PC came back, everything worked. I updated drivers again and boom, freeze. So i called to store, they remotely connected me to some tech guy. He told me to play games, try to put some load on the PC, meanwhile he checked the temps and overclocking and some stuff. He told me it seems normal. After 40 minutes he asked me, if i updated some drivers recently, so i said Yes of course. Long story short, he told me, that i have to download latest drivers for GPU right from their manufacturer site, but these drivers were out of date. I could not start some games because my GPU drivers were out of date. I contacted Nvidia and tried to ask, if they are going to update these drivers and sadly no. I managed to live with that for the whole time.

But now, get to the point, i just bought a Nvidia GEFORCE RTX 2060 SUPER from a friend, then changed the PC 16Gb stock ram for 32Gb - 2x Kingston FURY 16GB KIT DDR4 3200MHz CL16 Beast Black, updated drivers and it is still happening. It freezes once a session. I tried every possible fix i could find, nothing seemed to help. Temps are not high, no overclocking is happening, i did clear reinstall of the windows, i reinstall GPU with DDU, found so many articles and nothing. Updated BIOS, Chipset, turned off isolated core, cleared “temps” folder and many other things like "CHKDSK" in CMD, did RAM test with windows.

Only helpful thing i found (i hope it might help) is, when i check event log, in the time of freeze, it says this:

Name: Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-Hypervisor

Event ID: 167

Details: The hypervisor did not enable mitigations for side channel vulnerabilities for virtual machines because HyperThreading is enabled. To enable mitigations for virtual machines, disable HyperThreading."

I tried to disable that in BIOS and after boot next day i got freeze with following:

Event ID 41

Hyper-V launch failed; Either VMX not present or not enabled in BIOS.

after that there is:

Event ID 124

The virtualization-based security enablement policy check at phase 0 failed with status: Virtual Secure Mode (VSM) is not initialized. The hypervisor or VSM may not be present or enabled.

Right after these two there is Event ID 6008 - The previous system shutdown at XXXXX on XXXXX was unexpected. I assume that is my hard reset of the PC. Any other suggestions? Thank you.

    Hello

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your PC freezing. Based on the information you provided, it seems like you've already tried a lot of troubleshooting steps. However, there are a few more things you can try:

    1. Check for any hardware issues: You can run hardware diagnostics to check if there are any issues with your RAM, hard drive, or other components. Lenovo provides a hardware diagnostics tool that you can download and run.
    2. Check for any software conflicts: Sometimes, software conflicts can cause your PC to freeze. You can try booting your PC in Safe Mode and see if the issue persists. If it doesn't, then it's likely a software conflict.
    3. Check for any malware: Malware can also cause your PC to freeze. You can run a malware scan using Windows Defender or any other reputable antivirus software.
    4. Check for any BIOS updates: Make sure that your BIOS is up to date. You can check Lenovo's website for any available updates.
    5. Check for any driver updates: Make sure that all your drivers are up to date, including your GPU drivers.

I hope these suggestions help you resolve the issue. Let me know if you have any further questions!

    Best Regards,

    Zack Lu

Hello, first of all, thank you for reply.

    For the things you suggested.

    1. I did that already. But will try again.
    2. I will try that as soon as possible, but like i said, the time when PC freeze can vary from a minute to couple hours, that will be hard to wait in safe módě.
    3. Did that many times.
    4. No new update of BIOS on lenovo. I have their most “up to date” for my PC available.
    5. All of my drivers are up to date.

Only thing i can think of, only time it did not freeze was when i was using GPU drivers from may 2021 when i had GTX 1660 Super. Maybe there is something wrong with newer drivers which conflicts with some other stuff? But these drivers are so out of date.

Hey, i am not sure if i fixed it already, BUT, 3 days ago i found something called “BSOD PATCH TOOL” on Lenovo site.

This was for Legion PC builds with following symptom:

After installing Nvidia Graphics driver version 27.21.14.6231, the system may randomly freeze and exhibit a blue screen.

I googled the GPU driver version and it is dated to 18th May 2021. Which i found interesting since my problems started after updating GPU in May 2021.

So i downloaded it, followed the instructions and it disabled something on the GPU i think. Anyway, i did that 3 days ago and it did not freeze once since that patch.

EDIT: FIXED! So for people who stumble upon this post, for my specific problems that lasted 3-4 years, this BSOD PATCH TOOL already FIXED it!
