Windows File Sharing Permissions

Hi,

So, for a few months now I have been using my home PC as a file server so that I could access the D drive of the PC with my laptop. However, I had set the permission so that all users on the network have full control over the drive. Obviously, this is a huge security concern for me. So, I want to set up the permission in such a way that only my laptop can have full control and any of my other devices can only have the read permission. But, when I tried to set this up on my PC using Right Click > Properties > Sharing > Advanced Sharing > Permissions > Add > Locations, I could only see my PC even though my laptop and my PC are on the same workgroup and network. What do I do now?

Thanks in Advance

Shivesh

    Hello,

You can try the following steps to set file sharing permissions:

    1. On your PC, right-click the folder you want to share and select Properties.
    2. In the Sharing tab, select Advanced Sharing.
    3. Click the "Permissions" button and then click the "Add" button.
    4. Enter the name of your laptop in the "Enter object name" box and click the "Check Names" button.
    5. If the name is correct, click the OK button.
    6. In the Permissions window, select Full Control permissions for your laptop and Read-Only permissions for other devices.

    Hello,

If all your computers are not joined to the same domain, you cannot add the corresponding computers and give them the corresponding permissions through the advanced sharing permissions of the shared folder. According to your needs, you can actually set the sharing permissions of the everyone group to only Read permission is available.

    Regards,

    Zunhui
