24H2 has broken mapped network drives - why and fix?

First, I want MS to know I am incensed about this feature being broken. This so-called security update has cost me nearly 3 days of research and restoration effort.

I installed a clean install of Windows 11 Pro with a local account on my main machine. Got mapped drives and remote desktop working. Then 24h2 gets installed and all of it breaks again.

FFS MS! Is it your goal just to make Windows 11 unusable? I am very computer literate and can't fix it - just imagine your average simple user!

The only functional fix I found is to go back to 22h2 which did fix the problem and pause updates. I frankly think it would be best to go back to Windows 10 Pro for all 8 of your office and personal machines. It's just not worth the hassle to have you guys break things with updates.

Accessing your link, the GPEDITs did it for me. The SMB connections to my 2 NAS weren't connecting. Step 7 did it.

    1. Disable the guest fallback protection:

    a. On the Start Menu search, type gpeditand start the Edit Group Policy app (i.e. Local Group Policy Editor). If you are using Home edition, skip to step e.

    b. In the console tree, select Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates> Network > Lanman Workstation.

    c. Double-click Enable insecure guest logons

    d. Select EnabledOK.

    Rebooted all good.

I see a lot of suggested fixes - thanks for the help and advice to others. But I think you all are missing the point. We should not have to edit anything. The features should work without any edits to the configuration. That's the problem!

I agree Kelly, nonetheless, I can't get mapping on a 24h2 version Surface Pro 7 to work at all even after recommended policy changes and other posted solutions.

The point I am making is that we should not have to make any system alterations so that the features available in Windows 11 to work. If the feature is activated or available it should just work.
