Windows 11 24H2 Mouse Stuttering Issue

My work PC had it's main SSD corrupted when IT was trying to extend the drive. They swapped SSDs and reinstalled windows for me, fine whatever. It was incredibly frustrating having to reconfigure my development environment, but that all went smoothly. Since this occurred, and I had a fresh install of Windows 11 put on this PC, the mouse has lagged and stuttered constantly, making it near impossible for me to do my job, without getting frustrated and making mistakes because my mouse lags so bad. It's especially bad and noticeable when I click between windows, which I do literally constantly.

How do I fix this? I have tried every single workaround I can find online and am not able to download the preview of the update that "fixes" the problem. I have never been so frustrated and unable to fix a significant issue in windows before. I have tried changing display settings, turning off mouse animation settings, etc.

At this point, it's been over a week of me being able to barely do my job. What gives? How is this in a major release of the main version of your OS? Why is there not more urgency to get fixes to this issue out to customers? I am getting very close to having my IT department downgrade my OS version to windows 10 and never upgrade it again ( if they will even let me ). Otherwise, I am just going to continue to not be able to get anything done without having a mental breakdown.

This is actually insane. What am I supposed to do?

Tried swapping USB ports on the bluetooth Logitech receiver, tried disabling all animations/enhancements/etc., tried different cursors, tried restarting my machine 1.2 million times. Everything was working fine before the fresh 24h2 win 11 install. Same hardware I have been using for 3 years. The second the base install is changed to 24h2, instead of having installed win10 and upgrading it, I can't use my mouse. What are y'all doing?????? I see threads on this issue going back over 2 years and y'all still haven't addressed this problem????

Okay I did that. I can't imagine they will be able to help me but doesn't hurt, I guess. If this isn't resolved by next week, I will be getting a new PC from my IT department and reinstalling a version of windows that isn't broken, the way this has been so far does not work for me at all and is ruining my productivity at work for over a month. But sure thing maybe it will help somebody else.

I dont have all these controls on my work PC. I also dont have a NVIDIA graphics card on my work pc. I got the update recently that was supposed to fix this, and it did not.

I have never been more frustrated with Windows in my entire life/experience using Windows OS. This is detrimental to my work performance, and is getting to the point that I am going to have to fresh install everything and hope my IT department puts me on a non broken version. I cannot believe this is what i am dealing with in 2025 with no course of remediation.

I don't have the recent windows update as its on gradual rollout and has not been made available to my computer.

I don't have the permissions on my work computer to update drivers, but they are up to date as far as I am aware.

I have disabled pointer trails, and unchecked enhance pointer precision. The mouse speed is fun, it is the lagging that is driving me insane.

I will try no turning off fast startup setting, not sure what that has to do with my mouse lagging, but I will give that a try since I have no other ideas and am desperate to have my pc work so I can do my job.

I have done my due diligence in troubleshooting; I have used Windows for my entire life since I was 7 years old. The bug is allegedly fixed in the latest 24H2 patch but I'm concerned with why that update hasn't been made rapidly more available. At this point that is pretty much the only thing I am holding out for, as hopefully that bugfix resolves my issue. It's just dumbfounding to me how long it has taken, and how much of a critical functionality smooth mouse motion is to using Windows properly.

Since turning off fast startup, my mouse is still lagging so that didn't work either. Hopefully tomorrow the update rolls out? Otherwise can you figure out when exactly it is supposed to be released?

    Thanks,

    Kyle Kennedy

    Hello Kyle,

I had a mouse stuttering issue on one computer that seemed to start after the 24H2 update also. I did a little searching, tried a couple of things that made no difference and came across this article: https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledge/solved-mouse-lagging-and-stuttering-on-windows-11/ I tried #04 on the list - disabling g-sync on the nvidia graphics card. So far its working. Obviously this only helps if you have an nvidia graphics card.

I also have a continuing strange graphics issue where outlook does not display all of the grid lines on the calendar view until you use the scroll wheel. Something is not quite right with the graphics in the build perhaps. I am not an IT techie so only guessing.

    hth,

    Andy

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

Based on the description, I understand your question is related to Windows 11 24H2 Mouse Stuttering Issue.

First try open Device Manager, right-clicking on your mouse device and selecting "Update driver." Then reboot machine to take effect. Also, install the latest windows update for Windows 11 24H2.

Go to Mouse Properties, navigate to the "Pointer Options" tab, and uncheck "Display pointer trails." Also adjust the pointer speed and unchecking "Enhance pointer precision."

Open Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do > Change settings that are currently unavailable, and uncheck "Turn on fast startup."

    Have a nice day.

    Best Regards,

    Molly
