Sound stutters on my Huawei FreeBuds 5i. It pauses every few seconds for a second or two.

Bought Huawei FreeBuds 5i. They work ok in Zoom calls and other communication applications. But during video and audio reproduction the sound stutters. That includes YouTube and Spotify. It stops for a second or two every 3 or 4 seconds. This isn't happening with the previous version of FreeBuds 4i. Or my other bluetooth headphones and I have a few of them dating from 10 years ago to only a year ago. The FreeBuds 5i work fine on all other devices (PC, other laptop, phone, other phone, tabler, other tablet, TV, smartwatch).

I work in the IT support business so I tried all obvious steps like:

  • battery level
  • removed all other Bluetooth device
  • removing (disconnect and/or uninstall) and reconnecting with and without restarting
  • updating earphone firmware
  • updated all relevant drivers
  • Connected outside USB Bluetooth adapter and disabled the onboard one and then it worked fine.
  • disabled multi device support
  • put all settings to default
  • disabled bass boost
  • updated BIOS
  • Tried all bluetooth adapter drivers available on Lenovo website for that specific device
  • a few other things

I have checked every article and forum on the web and all solutions are either to basic and obvious or had no effect. Some more technical suggestion would be welcome.

    Hello  Josip Šulj,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

I understand that you are experiencing sound stuttering issues with your Huawei FreeBuds 5i when playing audio or video on your laptop running Windows 11 Enterprise. Based on the troubleshooting steps you have already taken, it seems that the issue is not related to the Bluetooth connection or the drivers.

One possible solution you can try is to adjust the audio quality settings for your FreeBuds 5i. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Right-click on the volume icon in the taskbar and select "Open Sound settings".
    2. Under the "Output" section, click on the device you want to adjust (in this case, your FreeBuds 5i).
    3. Click on "Device properties".
    4. Under the "Advanced device properties" section, select the "Advanced" tab.
    5. In the "Default Format" section, try selecting a different audio quality setting (e.g. 16 bit, 44100 Hz CD Quality).
    6. Click "Apply" and then "OK" to save the changes.

If this does not resolve the issue, you may want to contact Huawei support for further assistance, as it could be a hardware issue with the FreeBuds 5i.

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any question or concern, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Haijian Shan
