Windows 10 I have two printers listed referencing the same wi-fi printer. Are both necessary?

When selecting "Printers & Scanners > Manage(Button) >Printer Preferences" for the one with the name beginning "[HP46BA91]..." I get the HP settings dialogue. Whereas the other one presents (by the looks of it) a generic Window's dialogue that's not very comprehensive by comparison.

I would like to delete the one with the name beginning "HP Officejet Pro 8210..." but don't want to lose comms with the printer...

    Hello,

This situation can sometimes occur, especially after reconfiguring the printer or updating the printer drivers. Based on your description, one of the printer entries was installed using the specific driver provided by HP, while the other entry might have been added using a generic Windows printer driver.

To manage this, you may print a test page from each printer to identify which printer entry offers better functionality and connectivity for your needs before removing the redundant entry. This ensures that you maintain communication with your printer without any loss of functionality.

If you encounter any issues connecting to your printer after removing the duplicate entry, you may need to reinstall or update the printer drivers. You can download the latest drivers from the HP official website and follow the installation instructions provided.

    I hope this information helps.

    Best regards,

    Karlie Weng

Thank you for your comments. I bit-the-bullet and deleted the surplus driver, although I set a restore point just in case. The printer still works and the printer list is tidier.

It was quite a job to set up the wi-fi printer in the first place. I decided at the time to create a fixed IP address and to configure the printer settings and the router to suit. That may have been over the top, I don't know, but it seemed a good idea at the time. I just didn't fancy having to go through all that again.

Anyway, "all's well that ends well" as they say.

    Thanks again... šŸ‘
