Missing Base System Devices - alot of them

We installed multiple Win 2019 and Win 2022 Dell R450 servers and in each of them in Device Manager we are seeing Under Other Devices - Base System Device.

On the Win 2019 server, an external USB drive isnt recognized, which is how i found all these missing base system devices

Dell says its an OS issue so im checking into this as well.

Any ideas what i might try?

Thanks!

You have an Intel Gen 3 (Icelake) Xeon scalable processor system. The drivers you require are available from Dell in their latest Dell OS driver pack [dell.com].

I personally have not used this driver pack for deploying drivers. You can either attempt that deployment to see if it will automatically install or manually install them from that package getting drivers from the following location:

    1. Unzip the downloaded package.
    2. Browse to the payload directory and unzip the mas021.zip file.
    3. Browse to the KY9PW folder.
    4. Browse to the OS driver package you need (2019_64 or 2022_64).
    5. Update the majority of devices with the Intel drivers using Device manager pulling the inf from the Server_Common folder. Any remaining USB-based ones might be obtainable through one of the Icelake folders. Technically, one install will probably trigger the install of the majority, though you may have to refresh Device Manager.

The other folders in the mas021.zip file should contain any other OS drivers you need for Windows or Linux.

Based on the information you provided, it seems that the missing Base System Devices are related to the drivers for the Dell R450 servers. I would recommend checking the Dell website for the latest drivers for your specific server model and operating system version. You can download and install the drivers to see if it resolves the issue.

Regarding the external USB drive not being recognized on the Windows Server 2019, you can try the following steps:

    1. Check if the USB drive is recognized on another computer to ensure that the drive is not faulty.
    2. Check if the USB drive is listed in Disk Management. If it is, you may need to assign a drive letter to the USB drive.
    3. Check if the USB drive is listed in Device Manager. If it is, try updating the driver for the USB drive.
    4. If none of the above steps work, you can try connecting the USB drive to a different USB port on the server or try using a different USB cable.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Best Regards

    Zack Lu

    Hi Zach,

    Thanks for the reply!

Per Dell Support - "The chipset drive is no longer on our support page" which i think is odd as we just bought these servers this past fall (2023)...

    1. We've tried 2 different external drives on different machines and neither is recognized on the server, but is on another server and workstation
    2. It is not listed in disk management
    3. It is not listed in Device Manager
    4. We tried both the available USB ports (confirmed they are enabled in iDrac) new cables and have installed the WD application and it does not recognize it either.

Kind of at a loss here...

    Jeff

In Device Manager, what are the Hardware IDs of the devices that are not installed that you believe are to blame?
