I have 23 printers installed on a Server running Windows Server 2016 Standard. The issue that I am having is every printer automatically switches the setting to "Keep Printed Documents" back on automatically. Daily I have to manually go to the properties of each printer and uncheck this feature and delete all print queues. I am unable to find any information to lead me to what could be causing this issue. Please help

    Hello CMills2,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft customer support. I understand that you are experiencing an issue with the "Keep Printed Documents" setting on your Windows Server 2016 Standard.

To troubleshoot this issue, you can try the following steps:

    1. Check for group policies: Use the Group Policy Management Console to check if there are any group policies that are enabling the "Keep Printed Documents" setting. You can also try running the command "gpresult /r" in an elevated command prompt to see which policies are being applied to the server.
    2. Check for scripts: Use the Task Scheduler to check if there are any scripts running on the server that are enabling the "Keep Printed Documents" setting. You can also try running the command "schtasks /query" in an elevated command prompt to see which tasks are scheduled to run on the server.
    3. Check for third-party applications: Check if there are any third-party applications or printer drivers that are causing this issue. You can try updating the printer drivers or uninstalling any third-party applications that are related to printing.
    4. Disable the setting using PowerShell: You can try disabling the "Keep Printed Documents" setting using PowerShell. Open an elevated PowerShell prompt and run the following command for each printer: "Set-PrinterProperty -Name <PrinterName> -KeyName 'KeepPrintedJobs' -Value 0".

I hope the above information is helpful to you.

If you have any doubts, please feel free to let me know.

    Best regards

I have tried forcing this via regedit and powershell but when I log off of the server and back on the settings have reverted back to keeping printed documents.  Any idea of where I should be focusing my troubleshooting?

    Hello CMills2,

If you have modified group policies related to the "Keep Printed Documents" setting, please run the command prompt as an administrator and use the command "gpupdate /force" to apply the modified policies.

If you have modified registry entries, please restart the machine to apply the changes.

If none of the above solutions work, please let me know.

I tried both of the solutions you mentioned above, and the settings still revert back to KeepPrintedJobs. I don't know what else to try.

Are you using LogMeIn, Copitrak, FMAudit, or anything from Kofax? Is this a VMWare virtual machine?
