Night Light turns grey colors to pink and blue colors to purple on Windows 11

Hello all,

My new laptop (HP Elite x360 830 13inch G10, running Windows 11 Enterprise and on Intel Iris Xe Graphics) turns grey colors into pink and blue colors to purple when I turn on Night Light - e.g. on selected fields, menus and other elements in the Windows system windows and in various programs.

This happens on both the internal and connected external monitors.

Features like Color Filters, Adaptive Colors and Automatic Brightness are turned off.

The Intel Iris Xe Graphics driver is updated to the latest version (but the issue was occurring before the update as well).

This was not happening on my previous laptop (Lenovo X1 Yoga G4, also on Windows 11 Enterprise) – colors were not changing when Night Light was on (I had it on permanently at Strength 50/100).

Any suggestions how to fix this issue?

Best regards,

Danail

    Hello,

You can try resetting the Night Light feature in Registry Editor and see if it works

The Registry Editor contains many important data that affects your system. Once mistakenly operated, you may encounter a system crashing issue. So, we highly recommend you back up and restore the registry.

Step 1. Press the Win + R key to open the Run dialog box and then type regedit in the box and hit Enter.

Step 2. Locate the following path via the left navigation bar:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > CloudStore > Store > DefaultAccountCloud > Cloud

Step 3. Right-click the folder with the following name and select Delete.

    default$windows.data.bluelightreduction.bluelightreductionstate

After that, reboot your computer and check if the Night Light issue is gone.

    I hope this information helps.

    Best regards,

    Karlie Weng

    Hi Karlie,

Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried this, but unfortunately it didn’t help after the restart – Night Light changes the colors again.

Do you have any other suggestions?

In the registry path HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > CloudStore > Store > DefaultAccount > Cloud I also see another entry related to the Night Light – default$windows.data.bluelightreduction.settings

Should I try deleting it as well?

I see similar registry entries in other paths as well, e.g. under:

    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\CloudStore\Store\DefaultAccount*Current*\default$windows.data.bluelightreduction.bluelightreductionstate
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\CloudStore\Store\DefaultAccount*Current*\default$windows.data.bluelightreduction.settings

    Hello,

This appears to be the only solution I've managed to find online at present. There are hardly any cases like this issue. I'm unsure about the other registry values you mentioned; Apologize this is not my area of expertise. If you're considering trying this approach, I recommend backing up the registry before making any deletions.

Alternatively, you might want to post your query on the Microsoft Q&A platform Ask a question - Microsoft Q&A . There could be users who have faced the same issue and may offer assistance.
