How to find bitlocker recovery key with recovery key ID

I have an LG gram laptop. For some reason today it opened to the bitlocker screen. I do not have any recollection of setting up bitlocker, nor do I have a key saved in my Microsoft account. The page is displaying a “recovery key ID” that it says can help identify my key, but I cannot figure out where to enter this to get my key.

I am also unclear on what will happen if I click “skip this drive”. Will that delete all my files or lock me out?

If your BitLocker recovery key is available, it would appear on your Microsoft account page. However, if your BitLocker recovery key isn't available, you'll need to contact your device manufacturer or IT administrator for help. They may need to provide other methods to unlock your computer.

    Hi KatieLu,

if you don't have a recovery key saved in your Microsoft account, you can try to retrieve it using the recovery key ID that is displayed on the BitLocker screen. Here are the steps to do so:

    1. Go to the Microsoft BitLocker Recovery Keys page (https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey).
    2. Sign in with the Microsoft account that you used to set up BitLocker on your LG gram laptop.
    3. Enter the recovery key ID that is displayed on the BitLocker screen.
    4. Follow the instructions to retrieve your recovery key. If you click "skip this drive" on the BitLocker screen, it will not delete your files, but it will prevent you from accessing them until you enter the recovery key.

For more information, please refer to Finding your BitLocker recovery key in Windows - Microsoft Support.

Important: Microsoft support is unable to provide, or recreate, a lost BitLocker recovery key.

    Hope it helps.

    Best regards,

    Lei

Likewise. The site just says Microsoft will not be able to provide recovery key in case not stored somewhere. So where do i go now? There is a recovery key id provided. What needs to be done with it?
