Printer/scanner no longer working in Win 11

Epson Workforce 645 Win 11

I needed my scanner this week and have been unable to use it (and my printer is now going offline all the time for no apparent reason, even though the printer says the network connection is good). Yes, I uninstalled/reinstalled everything, updated drivers, turned power off/on, etc. I tried everything!

What is **Windows Protected Print Mode (WPP)**and if Win 11 installed it, I didn't speifically accept it, why is it apparently operative, and what can I do about it? I read something about "mopria" compatability. Is this the problem?

HELP!!

Thank you.

    Hello sir.

Did you recently install a new actualization of Windows 11 24H2? After the Windows 11 update, it is a known issue that the scanner is no longer working. This issue is mainly due to a faulty eSCL protocol in Windows 11, version 24H2, which prevents the device from switching from eSCL mode to USB mode when needed, causing connectivity issues. Microsoft has addressed this issue with Windows Update (KB5050009) and later released on January 14, 2025.

You can try following these steps:

Make sure that your computer has the latest Windows update, which is KB5050009 . This can be done through the Windows Update feature.

    January 14, 2025—KB5050009 (OS Build 26100.2894) - Microsoft Support

If you've already installed the latest update and the problem persists, here are some things you can try:

Restart your computer, check that the printer driver is up to date, and if not, update the printer driver.

If your printer supports the eSCL protocol, make sure that the printer is set up correctly and that it is able to switch from eSCL mode to USB mode correctly.

Check and restart the Print Spooler service. Manually add the printer again after removing it, making sure to replace the current driver.

Turn off the firewall temporarily: Windows 11's security settings may be preventing drivers from installing. Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Windows Security. Go to Firewall & Network Protection and turn off the firewall of the active network.

If none of the above works and the issue started after a recent system update, you can try using the System Restore feature to roll back to the stable state before the update.

    I hope this information helps.

    Best regards,

    Jingjing Wu

Thanks for your reply. I had, indeed, tried all of your suggestions, but what actually worked was - a new router!

I had realized that my internet speed was very, very slow. After telephone help failed, they sent out a technician. He replaced the router, my download speed were finally up to the 600mbps I'm paying for.

I thought I'd try sending something to the scanner again - and it worked! I have no idea why, but I'm happy.
