Found solution here! Known bug since about 2019: Re: Cannot Change Adapter settings - Microsoft Community Hub

Hello everyone! Hope you're having a lovely day! I'm experiencing a very odd problem with windows server 2019 in a VMWare virtual machine. I can't edit a single important setting. It's very annoying.

My workaround has been to use godmode:

Why does this work, but no other way does? How could I begin to fix it? For a class, we all make virtual machines on virtual networks. This semester we're having this problem that never occured before. Not sure what's goiong on! When I did a fresh install, everything worked. I did some setup on the server and restarted it, and now the problem persists. I didn't have any updates installed except what came on windows server 2019. After experiencing this issue, I enabled updates and installed them all, but the issue persists.

I've verified I should have permissions through all the administration of server settings, group policy, I've installed winaerotweeks and taken ownership of all the relevant files, but nothing has worked. I've done sfc.exe, ran DISM, but I haven't been greeted with success.

    Hello,

Based on my understanding of your issue, I suggest you try the following methods to see if the problem can be solved:

Log in with a domain administrator account on the affected computer, open the computer's "Local Security Policy" and find "Local Policy" → "Security Options" → "User Account Control: Administrator Approval Mode for built-in administrator accounts" , select Enabled, and then restart your computer.

    I hope this helps!

    Best regards

    Zunhui

I found the fix! What you want to do is go into your user accounts. Copy the administrator account and paste it. Name it administrator 2. Restart and login as administrator2, and everything will work!

This fix did the trick for me; thank you very much! I thought I was going to have to refresh the server from scratch!
