Hello,
Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.
This issue seems to be related to a specific conflict that can occur after Windows updates, particularly when it comes to network drivers or changes in security policies. Here's a step-by-step approach to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the VPN issue you're facing:
1. Check VPN Compatibility
First, ensure that your VPN client is compatible with the current version of Windows 11 (24H2). Sometimes, updates can introduce changes that affect VPN services. If there are any known issues with your VPN provider’s client on Windows 11, check their website for updates or announcements.
2. Reinstall VPN Client
Since the VPN works on your phone, it suggests the issue is specific to your PC. Reinstalling the VPN client can help resolve any corrupt files or configuration issues that may have resulted from the update. Uninstall it first, restart your computer, and then reinstall the latest version of the VPN client.
3. Network Drivers Update
Updates to Windows can sometimes overwrite or cause issues with network drivers. To update or reinstall your network drivers:
Open Device Manager (press Win + X and select Device Manager).
Expand Network adapters.
Right-click on your network device and select Update driver.
You can also uninstall the driver and then restart your computer to let Windows reinstall the driver automatically.
4. Disable IPv6 (if necessary)
Some VPN services do not support IPv6, and Windows 11 may have made changes to its handling of IPv6. To disable IPv6:
Open Control Panel → Network and Sharing Center → Change adapter settings.
Right-click on your active network connection and select Properties.
Uncheck the box next to Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6), and then click OK.
5. Check Firewall and Antivirus
Windows updates sometimes adjust firewall settings, which might be blocking your VPN connection. Ensure your firewall or any third-party antivirus is not interfering with your VPN:
Open Windows Security → Firewall & Network Protection → Allow an app through firewall.Check that your VPN is listed and allowed through the firewall.
If using third-party antivirus software, try temporarily disabling it to check if it's causing the issue.
6. Use Network Reset
A more drastic measure would be to perform a network reset, which reinstalls network adapters and resets networking components:
Go to Settings → Network & Internet → Status.
Scroll down and click Network reset.
Follow the instructions and restart your PC.
7. Check Windows Logs for Errors
If the above steps don’t resolve the issue, check the Event Viewer for any relevant logs that might provide more information:
Press Win + X and select Event Viewer.
Look under Windows Logs → Application and System for any errors related to VPN or network connectivity.
8. Rollback the Windows Update
If none of the above works and you suspect the issue is directly related to a recent update, you can consider rolling back to a previous version of Windows:
Go to Settings → Windows Update → Update History.
Click on Uninstall updates and look for any updates that might have caused the issue.
You can uninstall recent updates and restart your PC to check if the issue is resolved.
Have a nice day.
Best Regards
