I cannot access a drive connected to an Asus router on my new Windows 11 Lenovo

I have several computers in my house running on Windows 10 and Windows 11. All of them, except a newly purchased Lenovo laptop are able to connect to a USB drive attached to my Asus router, via Windows Explorer.

I don't get a chance to even log into router.

I followed the directions from a previous answer posted here in 2023. I turned on SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support option and SMB 1.0/CIFS Client option. I rebooted the computer and checked to see that the 2 items were still checked. I'm using the same Windows Firewall that came with Windows 11 on all the computers. I am able to access all of the shared folders on the Windows 10 and Windows 11 computers on all of the devices (including the new Lenovo).

There is 1 major difference. The computers that can connect connect to the USB drive attached to the router are running Windows 11 (Home and Pro) version 23H2. The new Lenovo is using Windows 11 Home version 24H2.

Has Microsoft disabled SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support in version 24H2, or is this a Lenovo problem?

I would appreciate any suggestions?

    Hi there. Were you ever able to resolve this issue. Mine is nearly identical with my new Lenovo IdealPad 3. I've read that others have had problems since Windows 11 updated 24H2. I also have a drive connected to my Asus Router and my Lenovo only sees it as a media device, but not computer. Every other device in my house, Windows or Android are able to see my network drive except my new Lenovo.

    Tried everything. I ended up just returning the computer.

    This seems to be a common problem that both Asus and Microsoft are neglecting to rectify.

    I've read on a few forums that this issue all started when Windows updated to 24H2. That killed SMB as they are phasing it out for security reasons. So if you have other Windows devices, make sure they don't update to 24H2 and you will be good. I almost sent my laptop back, but will now just use FTP share to transfer files. Unfortunately with FTP I can't stream or view files in the FTP folder, but at least I can move files between my laptop and drive connected to my Asus router.

    I had the same problem and I found the solution.

    Go to Windows Credential Manager -> Windows Credentials -> Add a Windows credential.

    Type in the network address, for example \MY-DRIVE.

    For user name and password, enter the user name and password of the Asus router where the drive is connected.

    By default: user name = admin

    password = password.

    Also go to Windows features and turn on all SMB 1.0/CIFS file sharing support

    It worked for me.

    Goodluck.
