Error: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005

I have a program on Server 2019 that reaches out to another server on Server 2022 to establish a connection.

The program is throwing this error: Unable to establish connection : Error: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))

This didnt happen until the software was moved to these new servers. It worked fine when both were 2012R2.

I get the same error when attempting a test connection with Windows Management Instrumentation Tester tool.

Ive disabled firewalls, verified RPC and WMI is running. Verified account and password.

Tested mapping a drive to the server for connectivity as the same username. This worked fine.

Tried multiple different users in the administrators group.

Not sure what to try next.

Thanks in advance.

Kenneth

    This is resolved.

For some reason the domain admin user I was using had to be named in the administrators group instead of be in the group through group membership. This fixed it.

    Hello Kenneth

To better assist you, could you please provide some additional information:

    • Have you compared the user account's permissions on Server 2019 (where the program is running) with its permissions on Server 2022 (the target server)? Are they the same, or have there been changes in permissions when moving from 2012R2 to 2019/2022?
    • Is the error message immediate, or does it take some time before it appears?
    • Have you ensured that DCOM (Distributed Component Object Model) permissions are correctly configured on both servers, especially on Server 2022? DCOM permissions can sometimes be a source of access issues when connecting between servers. You may need to adjust them to allow the necessary access.

    Thanks,

    Karlie

Hi Karlie, Thanks for the reply.

    • Both servers use the same username and password of the local administrator which is in the local administrators group. Permissions should be the same. Ive created new accounts to test with and got the same results.
    • The issue is immediate
    • I am not sure how to make sure DCOM permissions are correctly configured. Do you have any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Kenneth
