We have an issue where multiple azure virtual desktop users (virtual desktop is running Windows 10) when joining a meeting cannot use the microphone until they switch to another audio device and switch it back. Once the user has switch the microphone back it will work but sometime during the call it will drop the microphone. The users are once again force to switch their microphone from another device and back. Our users are forced to perform this task every time they start another meeting as well.

  • some cases a usb/bluetooth mic will work as long as they are are set as default before a user logs into an their virtual desktop. I will stop working if the usb/bluetooth device is disconnected during the virtual desktop session. (I have one of the computer that we cannot get this work with, when trying to use a virtual desktop from it)
  • all devices use Realtek audio drivers for built in microphone and speakers.

    Hello Wandering,

My name is Joanna, I’ll be happy to help you out today.

Please refer to the steps to Verify media optimizations loaded.

After installing the WebSocket Service and the Teams desktop app, follow these steps to verify that Teams media optimizations loaded:

    1. Quit and restart the Teams application.
    2. Select your user profile image, then select About.
    3. Select Version.

If media optimizations loaded, the banner will show you Azure Virtual Desktop Media optimized. If the banner shows you Azure Virtual Desktop Media not connected, quit the Teams app and try again.

    1. Select your user profile image, then select Settings.

If media optimizations loaded, the audio devices and cameras available locally will be enumerated in the device menu. If the menu shows Remote audio, quit the Teams app and try again. If the devices still don't appear in the menu, check the Privacy settings on your local PC. Ensure the under Settings > Privacy > App permissions - Microphone the setting "Allow apps to access your microphone" is toggled On. Disconnect from the remote session, then reconnect and check the audio and video devices again. To join calls and meetings with video, you must also grant permission for apps to access your camera.

If optimizations don't load, uninstall then reinstall Teams and check again.

Please let me know if this doesn't work or if you need further assistance.

    Thank you.

Thank you for your time and I looked at what you posted:

    • Our Teams in Azure Virtual Desktop are AVD Media Optimized.
    • We can clearly see all the mics and audio on the local machine from the Azure Desktop enviroment
    • we have no issues with cameras nor audio
    • Referring to the original post, only the mic is affected

I have a VERY similar issue that started around 2/23/2023. We do not control the client endpoints (consultants) but this same audio issue is happening seemingly right after their devices are updated to Windows 11. The most prominent model of laptop is Dell 5420. All Realtek audio drivers. We have:

    • updated Teams on host VMs
    • updated WebRTC on host VMs
    • confirmed all RDP settings for devices are set for audio pass-through
    • updated to Feb 2023 Windows Updates on host VMs
    • asked consultants to use variety of headsets including 35mm jack (iphone headset), USB, Bluetooth, and native laptop mic & speakers

On the Teams admin site, when we look at the stats for an impacted call, its clear there is no audio stream on the client side. We have a case open with Microsoft support, who tells us there's nothing of interest in the logs.

Help, anyone?! This is delaying 400 users launching into AVD for full production workload.

Interesting I have a very similar issue. Audio seems to work everywhere else (including Zoom) but Teams just can't consistently get the microphone to work inside the AVD host.

This is also a Dell but it's an XPS 9320
