Issue joining Windows 11 computer to SBS/Essentials domain

I am currently managing an on premises domain controller that was originally configured on a Microsoft Small Business Server. The client has made the transition to a Microsoft 2019 Server Essentials box as the domain controller.

They are in the process of replacing their leased fleet of Dell Windows 10 desktops (25 in all) to new computers running Windows 11. After joining the new computer to the domain and restarting, the following window appears:

Given that it refers to the original SBS domain in what appears to be a GPO login script I am looking for some ideas as to how to eliminate this error.

    Hello Tad Loving1,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

To better understand you question, please help confirm the information below so that we can help you better.

1.Did you migrate domain from Microsoft Small Business Server to Microsoft 2019 Server Essentials box?

2.Does the issue occur on only one Windows 11 or all the machines in this domain?

3.Is the Microsoft Small Business Server 2011 removed from your domain?

4.Is the Microsoft 2019 Server Essentials box is also a DNS erver?

    Also, please check:

1.Based on the description "Additional info: When pinging the domain by name ie: (ping myDomain.local) the wrong IP address is returned.", did you set the IP address of Microsoft 2019 Server Essentials box for Preferred DNS server on Windows 11 client? (I assume the Microsoft 2019 Server Essentials box is also a DNS server).

2.You can run command "ipconfig /all" on the problematic windows 11 client to check its DNS server.

3.Based on the description "Given that it refers to the original SBS domain in what appears to be a GPO login script I am looking for some ideas as to how to eliminate this error.", you can check if there is one GPO with the login script on Domain Controller?

4.One the problematic windows 11, please check group policy result.

Logon this client using one domain user account that used to apply this "login script" GPO.
Please create one folder named test.
Open CMD (do not run as Administrator).
Type gpresult /h C:\test\loginscript.html and click Enter.
Check if there is one GPO with "login script" under "User Details".

I hope the information above is helpful. If you have any question or concern, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,
    Daisy Zhou

Thank you Daisy for putting me on the right track.

Windows 2019 Essentials attempts to uninstall the SBS 2011 connector via a GPO user log on Power Shell script. Removing that Power Script (Connector.ps1) eliminates the Note Pad pop up that appears when logging on to the domain from a Windows 11 computer.

Must be a rather obscure issue but I hope this is helpful to someone.

    Thanks again Daisy

    Thank you for your response.

    To better clarify the issue:

    1. We did migrate from Small business server to a new 2019 Essentials box
    2. The issue occurs on all Windows 11 computers on the Domain. Not on Windows 10 computers on the same Domain
    3. The old SBS Server has been removed from the Domain
    4. The Server Essentials box is the DNS server

    Also:

    1. The Essentials 2019 box is set as the preferred DNS server on the Windows 11 computers.
    2. There is a Login Script under User Details when checking the loginscript.html file generated by the "gpresult" command

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks again
