I'm trying to set up Windows Update for Business reports and have hit a wall that I can't figure out what the issue is. I'm logged in as the global administrator but I keep receiving the following error.
Checking the Azure subscription shows the status as Active and my role as owner.
The tenant ID is the same and there's only one directory for the org.
Any tips on where to go to resolve this issue?

I'm running into the same issue. I double-checked the permissions from the prerequisites. I also made sure the monitoring Resource Providers from the Log Analytics Workspace were Registered.

Same here on 2 different tenants. MS closed my ticket as they refer to the Azure team. I reached out to Intune support. Maybe they can fix it.
Same issue here.
Global Admin and subscription contributor. Owner of the LAW.
Admin consent given for the "WindowsUpdates.ReadWrite.All" and "DeviceManagementServiceConfig.ReadWrite.All" Graph permissions.
Even the PowerShell method (New-MgBetaWindowsUpdatesResourceConnection) of setting this up isn't working. It instantly fails with a System.AggregateException. Completely unhelpful.
The resourceConnections node is empty. So, no remnants of a past attempt.
The only questionable thing I have in my Azure tenant is some systems still using Azure Automation Update Management. These are owned by other colleagues and should have been migrated to AUM by now. There is that note that says WUfB data should go into the same LAW as this legacy method of updating Azure VM's. It's not clear how hardwired that is though. If this is the cause, they need one of the purple boxes on the documentation about it.
It's as though Microsoft is deliberately and silently blocking this.
