Hello,

Currently, we are running Windows Server 2016 hosted in Azure with a hybrid license. As we know, mainstream support for Windows Server 2016 ended on January 11, 2022, and extended support will continue until January 12, 2027. I would like to understand if there are any additional costs for maintenance now that mainstream support has ended?

    Hello MJ-1983,

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

Following the end of mainstream support for Windows Server 2016 on January 11, 2022, the server has now entered the extended support phase, which will last until January 12, 2027. During this period, security updates for patching vulnerabilities will still be provided, but product support and non-security updates will not be included.

Should you require additional support beyond what is available in the extended support phase, a Service Pack for Windows Server 2016 may need to be purchased.

Furthermore, the licensing model for Windows Server 2016 involves both Cores and Client Access Licenses (CALs). Each user or device accessing a licensed Windows Server must have a Windows Server CAL or a combination of Windows Server and Remote Desktop Services (RDS) CALs.

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Daisy Zhou
