Does Entra Domain Services (Azure AD DS) support creation of new DFS Namespaces (DFS-N)?

We are using Azure File Sync (AFS) with 2 x local Windows 2022 Standard servers as AFS cache servers at different sites. When attempting to set up DFS Namespace for these AFS cache servers we are getting this error: "The namespace server {redacted} cannot be added. Access is denied."

We have seen conflicting statements on Microsoft Learn as to whether Entra Domain Services supports DFS-N. Azure File Sync documentation suggests it is supported, whilst an Entra Domain Services article suggest that Entra Domain Services do not support DFS-N.

Are you able to provide clarity as to whether DFS-N is supported by Entra Domain Services and if so why we might be getting the "Access is denied" error.

Thank you

    As per https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/identity/domain-services/faqs

Can I configure Distributed File System and replication within Microsoft Entra Domain Services?

No. Distributed File System (DFS) and replication aren't available when using Microsoft Entra Domain Services.

That's expected - you'd need to be a member of Domain Admins group to implement it - which is never the case in Entra Domain Services.
