How can I create a new custom dictionary for the word web app? I can't add words directly to a custom dictionary.
I made a new account recently and when I try to access Review>Editor>Personal dictionary I get this message "unable to fetch the list please close the window and reopen." Doing this changes nothing. Do I need to create a dictionary file somewhere?

Word for the web does not have custom dictionaries. You would have to use Word for Windows or Word for Mac, the desktop software.
So why could I use it on my previous account? Is it accessing a file stored locally?
Sorry, I don't know. AFAIK, that has never been possible in the online version.
There seems to be one on my system.
Office 365 online in Windows 11, FireFox browser.
This is definitely from my hard drive. I do not know what would happen if I were to sign in under a different account. The custom.dic file is, I believe, stored in the Roaming part of a profile.
Note: I do not do any serious work with the online app.

Yes, there's definitely a personal dictionary. The O.P. was asking about custom dictionaries, but perhaps they can repurpose the personal dictionary.
Thank, you Charles, that's exactly what I was referring to. That's what I see in my other account. I'm wodnering if there's a ways to transfer that to my new account.
