Why does my outlook calendar become unresponsive when I unclick it so I am able to see only the calendar I want to?

In my Outlook calendar I own many calendars, plus I have a group calendar from a SharePoint site. I will often overlay multiple calendars, including my group calendar. However, when I go to the left column, to take remove/unclick calendars, all of my calendars, the ones I own, go away - but not the group calendar. When I click on the box, in the left column, to remove the group calendar; Outlook freezes and becomes unresponsive. Often, never unfreezing until I close/restart the program. Sometimes when it restarts the calendar has removed itself and other times the calendar repopulates and if I try to remove it, it just keeps doing the same thing. (becomes unresponsive, I re-load it and try again, becomes unresponsive etc. etc.). Eventually, I just give up and do my best to complete what I was doing with the hinderance of an extra calendar. I do not know how to make this glitch go away.

Just tried something that seemed to help, at least in the case of my colleague:

    1. WIN + R and type %localappdata%\Microsoft\Outlook (outlook cache folder)
    2. To be sure, create a backupfolder and copy all other folders to the backup folder.
    3. After a restart of Outlook we could close / hide the shared mailbox.

    Hope this helps someone else.

    Hi @Ellie McClure

    Welcome to our forum!

For better research, please provide more details about this case:

What is your account type (POP/IMAP/Exchange)?

What is your version of Outlook client? Make sure to update to the latest version.

Will it freeze only when you open the calendar?

Is there the same issue with Outlook web? If the web is working properly, it means that this could be a client issue.

There are many reasons for this issue, here are a few possible workarounds to try:

    1. Make sure you have a stable network connection and make sure that Outlook is not being used by other processes.
    2. Please open Outlook in safe mode and check if the calendar will freeze when opening Outlook in safe mode (microsoft.com). If the calendar is working fine in safe mode, follow the steps mentioned in the article to disable the add-in to identify the add-on that is causing the issue. User's image
    3. Delete and re-create the Outlook profile or the user profile.
