Client has asked to collect all Teams Chats from a specific Chat Group or Meeting Chat. If I know the Chat Group or Meeting Chat Name, is there a specific filter I can use to accomplish this in Purview Advanced eDiscovery?

    @DONNELLAN, MICHAEL F

    In Microsoft Purview Advanced eDiscovery, it's not currently possible to search directly by the name of a Teams chat group or meeting chat. This is because Teams chat messages are stored in the mailboxes of individual participants, not in a centralized chat or meeting container with a searchable name.

    To collect messages from a specific Teams group chat or meeting, you’ll need to follow this approach:

    Identify all participants involved in the chat or meeting.

    Add those users as custodians in your eDiscovery case.

    Create a search query using:

    • The Exchange mailbox location (to capture Teams chat messages, which are stored in a hidden folder called TeamsMessagesData),
    • A date range for when the chat occurred,
    • Optional keywords if you're looking for specific topics discussed.

    Unfortunately, filtering by the chat or meeting name isn’t supported at this time. The most reliable method is to target participant mailboxes and apply relevant filters like date and content.
