Bing search results take you to ads on first click, and results on second click.

just started about 10-14 days ago. It appears it is the link itself that is displayed in the Bing search results.

So for example, if you search for Union Bank, it will show some ad links at the top, then further down you will see the actual search result links to real sites. If you select one of those sites, and right click the title, and click Copy Link, it will copy the link. Now if you click the link, it will open a new tab and take you to an "Ad" site, not the result site. If you go back to original search result tab, and click the same link a second time, it will take you to the result site. If you take the copied link and open a new tab and paste the link in the tab, you will see it starts with "bing.com".

Once again, this does not happen every time, or with every link, but it does happen probably more than 50% of the time with the first several links on the search page results.

If you paste the copied link into a new tab and go there, it seems to do the same thing, takes you to an AD the first time, and takes you to the result site the second and other times.

Yes, my anti-malware is up to date. And yes, my browser is reset.

As with the original post, for the last month or so when I open a search on Bing (using Edge) and then click on a result, the first click opens the site of an advertiser in a new tab (not the site of the result). I have to go back to my search tab and click again to get to the site I am trying to visit. I don't know if this is a glitch or intended behavior but it's making me want to switch back to Chrome & Google. I don't think the MS support reply addresses the heart of the issue.

This is happening to me as well. It's very suspicious. If it keeps happening, I'll need to change search engines and quit using Bing.

I have had several private messages with the MS Support Agent - Nikita, whereby they have not been able to reproduce the issue. They claim it is just my use of the tool and/or PC, browser, malware, etc, etc, etc. They also claim that I am probably just clicking on an Ad link, so the ad is showing up, which is as intended. I am not convinced they understand the issue or how to reproduce it. Unfortunately, it does not happen 100% of the time. It only happens to me about 50-60% of the time. I encouraged them to keep trying to reproduce it, understanding that it will NOT happen every time. I suspect they will drop the conversation shortly. This is usually how Microsoft Answers and Microsoft Support works; they give you a simple answer and move on.

I have seen other posts here, indicating the same issues with Bing search results. So it is happening elsewhere, to others.

I recently received a report from Microsoft, about an Edge add-in called Visio Viewer (from the Microsoft Store). The report seemed to indicate it was a bad add-in, even though I have had it installed for years, and have been using it for years without issue. So I uninstalled it. So far, no recurring ad redirects from Bing. Let's see if this holds. For others, check your add-ins (extensions) and look for the Visio Viewer.

    Good afternoon JSmith530,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Advertising Community Forum! My name is Nikita and I will be assisting you with this query.

We are sorry to hear that you are having difficulties for this matter.

When a customer does a search on Bing, AOL, or Yahoo, an auction determines which ads are shown and where they're placed on the page. This placement is what we call ad position, and it's where your ad appears on the Bing, AOL, or Yahoo search results page—on top of the search results, on the side of the page, or at the bottom of the page. It's generally more desirable to have your ad appear higher along the page, as it's more likely that customers will be able to see it.

Ad position is determined by a variety of factors:

    • The amount you bid for your keyword.
    • The amount the competition bid for that keyword.
    • Your ad's relevance.
    • Your ad's performance.

You can review this information in this article: Learn how Microsoft Advertising works

For any account specific question related I will send you a private message to be able to assist you further.

    Thank you,
