How Many Keywords Per Ad Group

Hello,

Can someone tell me what is the recommended number of related keywords I should have in one Ad Group?

I'm hearing different numbers, like under 30 or 5-10 and heard that adding 100 or more keywords to one Ad Group is a no no. If there are 100 or more relative keywords that fits my Ad Group, should I add all of them? For instance, I'm testing several Ads as such...

  1. Green Juice (Green Powder, Green Drink, Green Juicing, Green Juices, Beet Green Juice, Green Diet Drink, Green Health, etc.)
  2. Weight Loss (Diet Loss Weight, Weight Loss Diet, Lose Weight Diet, Diet Losing Weight, etc.) 

I'm going after two sets of keywords for this Ad... Green Juice (w/ variations) and Weight Lost (w/ variations) related to the product and landing page.

Am I correct that I should remove keywords that are not as closely related such as Detox Juice? However Detox Green Juice is related.

I like to know how should I approach this as far as grouping keywords and many is too much. Right now I have over 500 keywords for this one Ad Group.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Good Morning,

    Thank you for your question. the number of keyword recommended per adgroup depends on many factors, your bid to budget ratio, yoru goals for that adgroup. One thing that I see happen frequently is that the total bids on keywords can be close to or higher than the budget and this will cause the system to slow down or even stop serving to avoid going over  you budget.

    Strictly from a technical perspective the limit is 20,000 keywords per adgroup and 20,000 negative keywords per adgroup.

    Consider your ad when choosing the keywords for you ad group. Are the words included in the ad? Or are similar word in the ad? If you have a long string of keywords, would it be best to use Broad Match Modifier to avoid mismatches when using the broad match type. See Using Broad Match and Broad Match Modifier.
