Bing ads showing as bing / ppc on Google Analytics

Hi everyone,

I'm having massive issues with Bing Ads tracking on Google Analytics.

So, for some reason, Bing has been sending all of the hits to GA as being "bing / ppc" rather than "bing / cpc"

However, this tracking sometimes goes crazy as you can see here... it just spikes for no apparent reason messing up with my results:

When we check Bing, we see that those spikes actually didn't happen:

On Bing, on the week of March 31st, we actually had a total of 2 clicks only.

Also ,when we take a look at the number of clicks that we see for the entire range (Dec 1st  2018 - June 5th 2019), on Bing it shows 419 clicks and on Google shows 1641.

I tried to fix this by enabled auto-tagging on Bing and enabling bot filtering on GA on May 20th. I also turned off the Microsoft click ID auto tagging.

This worked partially, but I'm still getting traffic from "bing / ppc":

On the other side, a new medium appeared: the correct one: "bing / cpc":

This one is correct and matches more or less the numbers that we get from Bing Ads.

So, can someone tell me how to remove totally the numbers that we're getting from "bing / ppc"? Why did this appear in the first place? What's wrong here?

Thanks

Thanks for the answers, Madeleine.

Is there a way to filter out the low quality clicks? Why do we get these clicks on Bing and not On Google or any other search engine? It's ridiculous that I get in one single day 138 low quality clicks as it happened to me on May 3rd 2019. This has destroyed the type of tracking I was doing on Google.

Also, in my account I don't find the option to see the "Low-quality clicks and Low-quality click rate (%)." as the article https://help.bingads.microsoft.com/#apex/3/en/50812/0 indicates me to do. Where can I find it?

I'm really disappointed with all of this, and I'll definitely think twice next time before I start using Bing Ads.

Thanks

Hi nuno.autotrip,

We understand your concerns and I will try my best to clarify for a better understanding.

As previously mentioned, we do not count low-quality clicks on the Microsoft Advertising Platform. The extra clicks shown in Google Analytics about Microsoft Advertising often originate from spiders, robots, questionable sources, or test servers. So basically, clicks with no intention to benefit your business and to make conversions for your business, as these clicks are not human or do not entail customer potential. We will not allow our Advertisers to pay for clicks that will not benefit them.

Microsoft Advertising takes great pride in ensuring our customers receive quality clicks and a higher-value audience and we even make this known on our home page: Microsoft Advertising

As for Google, they have a similar filtration system and do not expose their low-quality click data on their own Platform tracker. Therefore, you will not see spiders, robots, questionable sources, or test servers clicks with Google on their own tracker. You can view all clicks, including low-quality clicks, with Microsoft Advertising on Google Analytics because it is an outside view tracker and is not able to decipher and filter the good clicks from the bad clicks.

Though Microsoft Advertising does not display these low-quality clicks with basic click data. That does not mean we do not share this information with our users.

As stated in this link: Monitoring clicks: Telling the good from the bad

Microsoft Advertising provides our customers with reports on low-quality clicks and low-quality click rate (%), which are the extra clicks viewed on Google Analytics.

Below, I have provided some detailed pictures for you to locate our low-quality data reports:

  1. In your “Reports” Tab, click “Choose your columns” before running a report.![](https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/169a90c6-8047-4ece-9a2c-eeeecd676028?platform=QnA"https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/daaeeedd-d1b3-488e-a7c2-99e9f08e5d3f?platform=QnA" rel="ugc nofollow">

I hope this information is helpful and clears some concern. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns as we are always here to help!

    Sincerely,

Hi nuno.autotrip,

Thank you for sharing your concern with us as we are always happy to help!

There could be several reasons why clicks may not match. Keep in mind that Microsoft Ads does not expose data to any third-party platform, and each system uses its own logic when tracking clicks. As such, some level of discrepancies is expected.

For more information, please review our support article regarding the discrepancy: Discrepancy between Microsoft Ads and Google Analytics

The article details of conversions, however, the same rule of thumb applies for clicks in a vague way as well.

To further explain, these clicks can entail low-quality clicks or invalid clicks, which, here at Microsoft Advertising, we will not count as clicks for our advertisers. This is to protect your spend and ensure quality for our advertisers and their businesses.

These type of low-quality clicks often originate from spiders, robots, questionable sources, or test servers.

To learn more on how to monitor your clicks, please follow the link here: Monitoring clicks: Telling the good from the bad

As for removing the data from your Google Analytics, this is out of our scope of support to assist with. I recommend contacting Google Analytics Support for assistance regarding this question.

I hope the information provided was resourceful and helpful! Should you have any other questions or concerns, please let us know!

Thank you for choosing Microsoft Advertising!

Sincerely,
