yes it is still present in the UEFI i tried changing the date using the touch key board that pop-up and a whole row is untouchable so the issue is still their. if it is a hardware problem i don't know why. it was sitting on my desk for more than 2 weeks not moving when i went on vacation. But when i came back i plugged it in to the charger, since it was completely drained from not being used, and that's when the problem first stared. Am wondering if this was the cause and if anyone else had the same problem occur when their laptop was completely drained up to the point where the low battery logo appeared on the screen.

Can you boot to the UEFI and try to determine if touch works in the UEFI in the

area where it is dead in Windows?

    1. Shut down your Surface and wait 10 seconds.
    2. Press and hold the volume-up button on your Surface and at the same

time, press and release the power button.

    1. The Microsoft or Surface logo appears on your screen. Continue to

hold the volume-up button. Release the button once the UEFI screen appears.

    Hello Surfacebook650,

We appreciate your time on keeping us updated.  For us to further assist you, can you please confirm if the issue still present when you booth to Unified Extensible Firmware Interface(UEFI)?

    1. If the issue does not occur in UEFI let us install "Win tab and SurfaceBook_Win10_15063_1802100_0.msi" please go to this **link**and follow on screen instructions.
    2. If the issue exists in UEFI, you need to contact our **Microsoft Support**to process the replacement of the device.

We are looking forward to your response.

    Thank you.

So did everything and its still there. Not a hardware problem everything was running and operational.

1.Its a Surface Book the first generation

    1. No, it doesn't lag it works fine just not in that specific horizontal line. when i get to the deadzone it just cuts off but continues as a pass it almost like a jump. it doesn't go crazy and write all over the place it just jumps.
    2. Am using the sketch pad that came with the surface and uploaded a better photo. top is where camera is and bot is where you latch to the keyboard.

    Hello Surfacebook650,

Thank you for raising this concern to us. For us to better assist you, please answer our few questions:

    1. What is the type/model of your Surface Book? Here’s how you can check it:
    • On search bar type dxdiag.
    • Under System, check for System Model.
    1. When you touch an icon or perform a touch gesture on your Surface screen, the Surface takes several seconds to register the touch input or gesture?
    2. What are the application you used?

For the meantime, let us do the following steps below:

    Restart your Surface:

    • Go to Windows > Power > Restart.
    • Restarting the device puts the device, drivers, and operating system in a known good state. If the issue is resolved after a restart, we know it’s a driver or software issue. Ensure the device is up to date

Boot to Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) and see if the issue is present.

    • Go to Windows > Power > Shutdown.
    • Once the device is shutdown, press and hold the volume up button, and then single press the power button.

    • The device will boot to the Surface Logo, and you should see spinning dots. After the Surface logo, the device should boot to UEFI.
    • If the issue exists in UEFI, then we know it’s a hardware failure. We need to replace the device.
    • If the issue does not occur in UEFIthen we know the symptom is being influenced by software such as Windows or other applications.****Please proceed to the next steps.

    Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit:

Download and run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit**.**Which can often fix most software and driver issues. Please complete the touch screen test. This tool will ensure that you have the latest driver and firmware updates on the Surface and also check for software issues that may be affecting the device's performance. Restart the Surface after installing updates.

    Disable Unnecessary Programs:

    ·         Open Task Manager by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL. You may need to click on More Details.

    ·         Select the Startup tab.

Please review the programs and disable any programs that seems unnecessary. Once all unnecessary programs are removed, restart the Surface and test touch functionality. Slow Touch Response typically means that the Surface does not have enough available resources to perform the function immediately. Like most things, Surface will prioritize actions and inputs based on its workload at the time. If there are a lot of apps and processes running, Surface may need to deprioritize the touch gesture until enough resources are available to perform the function.

    Optimize Surface’s Performance:

    ·         Use the Optimize your Surface for Performancearticle on Support.Microsoft.Com for your reference.

    • Check the Power Mode setting in use
    • Use top Windows tips to improve Performance
    • Identify hardware issues

After doing all the steps above and the issue still occur, we need to reset your Surface. Fresh Start is the least intrusive form of reset. You will not lose any files or personal information. However, you will need to reinstall desktop programs. This also ensures that you have all available updates once complete.

    Here’s how:

    • Go to Fresh Start and follow on screen instructions.
    • Go to Start > Settings > Update & security > Recovery.
    • Under Fresh Start, select Additional info > Get Started.

Hope this helps. Looking forward to your response.

    Regards.
