USB 3 very slow on my Surface Pro 4

I connected a TP Link wireless adaptor via the USB port. The speed was very slow just a few Mbs.  Using the same adaptor on my PC I can get about a 100Mbs. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks for the quick response. Your list of questions flagged up a thought which got me checking the TP-Link driver. Feeling rather red faced, I have to say updating it solved my problem. I am now  getting in excess of 100Mbs. Thanks again.
