Surface Laptop Water Damage.

Hi

I've managed to spill coffee on my surface laptop, specifically on the keyboard. I've let it dry out and have turned it back on and tested it.  The keyboard and laptop itself is functionally ok, however, they keyboard is now sticky and difficult to use and I'm also worried about long term damage.

I only have the manufacturers warranty - which, I assume does not cover accidental spills.

Does Microsoft do keyboard repairs on the surface laptop? or does anyone have advice on what to do...

Thanks in advance.

So i contacted Microsoft support who said that if a laptop had any water damage, they would refuse to repair it and simply send it back. Even for a fee. Which in my opinion is pretty weak for such a large corporation to refuse to offer repair services.

My solution? As the keys were only sticky and the laptop is still functional, i managed to take the keys off one by one, clean them with isopropyl alcohol and stick them back in.

The keys are no longer sticky and the laptop works as good as new.

Don't think i'd buy another surface after this..

The real issue is that the keyboard is made with alcantara fabric which is glued on. You can't take it apart without tearing and significantly damaging it.

This is not a laptop made to be taken apart or repaired.

Here is what I would do:

    1. Open youtube
    2. How to open your laptop (with model number whatever)
    3. Open your laptop and remove keyboard.
    4. Take some spirit / perfume / deo etc.. spray and clean. (not water).
    5. put that back.

    What you get:

    1. If successful, a clean computer.
    2. knowledge about how to repair your comp.

If you can't do it.. post it on some forum, there should be people who can do it for you.. may be for 10$ or 20

circuit city had such option for repairs in the past
