Surface book 2 USB C Charging?

Greetings

Hope to find someone who got some info about how charging thru the USB C port works on the SB2. Since apparently my Power Inverter wont work.

Got access to a 12v and a 24v (alltho the 24v is some weird tinny one) But both say they can handle over 100W (think its 120 for 12v and 240 for 24v), should work there since the normal power brick says 102W.

So can i just get a Car Charger rated for as much W as i can get? does Quick Charge assist? Is there some special charger that's needed?

And to be honest, slow Charging isn't the issue. Most often i will be able to leave it charging for an easy 7-10 hours in the truck if it wants that, to then use it 1-4 hours so.

Any enlightment in this issue is appriciated, since so far ive mostly seen allot of... Maybe's

Many Thanks

-Rasmus

    Hi RasmusÅkerholm ,

You can charge using the USB-C port on your Surface Book 2 but only when Surface Connect power source is not in use. The USB C port can provide output power, and draw power for charging. Although we always recommend using the Surface Connect charger that came with the device. We know there are times people may not have their charger with them and a USB-C charger can be used.

Regarding your question about using a car charger, we have a vehicle charger that is recommended on your Surface device. This charger can quickly power your Surface device and it inserts effortlessly into your car's accessory power outlet to make powering up easy. Currently, it is only available on Microsoft Store US.

I hope this helps but should you need further assistance, feel free to reply back.

Some specs would be nice I.e. watts are needed to actually charge the device.  When I tried to charge my SB 2 all I got was unrecognised device no indication it was charging.

    Hi Abygaille,

the suraface book's 102W charger does not generate enough power to sustainably play computer games.

If I were to use a 130W USB-C charger, would I be able to use all the available voltage to charge my surface book 2?

    thank you,

    P

I use DELL USBC 90W charger on my surface quite often while working on non heavy tasks (don't use nvidia at the time) and it acts a bit strange. Sometimes it works as it should but other time battery level goes slowly down (charger connected but not charging). No idea what's the reason.

Yes this would be nice to know aswell, one thing in add is that I got my self a charger but actually haven't gotten to test it yet.

But I'm say this the power brick says 102 wats so as close to that as possible I guess? Also after some looking I found that the USB charging is done thru "USB-PD) so a car charger that supports that might work, might also fix that "unrecognized device" issue. I'l see if I remember to try it out tonight to see if mine works ^^
