Ethernet Port on Surface Dock Doesn't seem to be working (I'm using a Surface Pro 2)

Hi,

I have a Surface Pro 2 and recently got the Surface dock for it.  The ethernet port doesn't seem to work on the dock.  I tested the ethernet connection and cable on another computer and it worked fine.  When I plug it into the dock, the Surface is not recognizing it.  I'm having to use the wireless connection for now to get on the company network, would prefer to use ethernet (that's part of the reason we got the dock in the first place).

Any help on trouble shooting would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Antonio

Thanks ... we had the same problem here.

Ethernet worked fine out of the box, ... switched to wifi, .... had some updates in auto mode ... wanted to go back to Ethernet (after final installation of the dock in the employee's office ... boom ... no Ethernet found.

Unplugged the dock from the power supply ... plugged it back in and problem solved.

Thanks

Unplugged the dock from the power supply ... plugged it back in and solved my problem too.

Ok, problem solved. In another thread, a MSFT support person suggested connecting via Wi-Fi and installing updates with the Surface2 Pro in the dock, then do a shutdown and restart I installed the update correctly but needed to restart the Dock as well as the Surface2 Pro. (The instructions did not mention shutdown and restart on the dock...) After pulling the dock plug and re-energizing, the Ethernet port connected immediately with the router. The Ethernet driver for the dock is an Optional Update, so the user needs to view the windows update details and check the update "ASIX... driver for Ethernet...whatever" to download and install the optional update.

Hope this helps Nick and the next Dock users who get stuck looking for an answer to this problem.

Greetings ADominguezpg,

I'd suggest reaching out to Assisted Surface Technical Support and letting them know what you're experiencing.

Unbelievably, my situation was amazingly simple...   but I never did it.

I had to simply turn off and back on the dock!   Then reboot the surface.

    /facepalm

    Hello ADominguezpg

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with the Ethernet port on the Surface Dock.

Have you attempted to use this hardware combination with a different wired network, or on a different segment of this network?  With all accessories connected, restart Surface and install any available updates via the wireless connection.

Do you have the Surface Ethernet adapter?  Try this connection without using the Dock.

    Let us know your results.

    Best regards
