I purchased this pen kit from amazon as a replacement. Much more affordable for replacements https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01697GO4S/ref=oh\_aui\_detailpage\_o03\_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The surface pen v4 pen tip is fragile/easily damaged
I just bought my surface 4 a week ago and my surface pen v4 pen tip is already broken. The black plastic protective/stabilizing layer was easily crumbled to dust when I wrote and drew now the tip is more like a fragile brush than a pen, a big chunk was just loosened itself and then it was just in the way so it crumbled with the assist of me correcting it to an equal level. I've ordered a pen tip kit since I can imagine the hardware guarantee won't lift a finger for this. Even if they do sending in my pen for reparations for a week so they can make sure it is broken isn't worth the effort if the pen tip just breaks again.
How can I make my tips last longer if this is how they are going to be? I've handled it quite well I'd say and didn't realize how or when it was damaged. I've seen a tilt on the pen from pressing one of the sides continuously. I suspect the tilt and pressure broke the pen while I drew on the surface. Maybe applying pressure to all sides of the tip would be good for durability, but with the unsymmetrical pen being how it is it doesn't fit into every position of my hand. It might have been damaged due to transport or something completely different as well so it feels silly.
Any thoughts on the surface pen v.4 durability?

2017-01-02T05:47:09+00:00 This is exactly what happened to me! My tip was crooked by day 2, and broken within the week. And that was just getting to know my new Surface 4!
I really want this to work. Perhaps for someone like me I should be using an all-rubber tip instead of the ones with plastic casing? I do use pressure sensitivity purposefully since I am a calligrapher / hand-letterer.
Thanks for posting, GunnarTjus!

2017-01-03T08:17:15+00:00 i got an asus pen from amazon for about 10-15 pounds. So... in regards to the 40 dollar replacement and how long its worked (about.... 4-5 months?) getting a non microsoft product for the pen is probably good....
(I got one without a rubber tip) and i won't say its perfect... it shuts off like a bunch of things but can easily be fixed by wiggling the pen or re-setting the tip in the end.
I suppose if I was microsoft I would say something like
"Microsoft pen technology is very advanced, the pen tip is produced in responce to the need for touch sensitivity of our buyers, however the issue is that when pressing down hard on the pen itself it can cause the edge to break. All we can say is to buy a new tip from our (forgot price... like 30 dollars? 20?) package and be careful with your device."
Fyi my microsoft pen only lasted a week.
but i do art so....
