Neflix Brightness Flucuations on Surface Book 2

When watching Netflix on the Surface Book 2, subtitles and/or moving the mouse in order to make the video controls appear automatically causes the video display to noticeably brighten. When watching "Dark," for example, the subtitles are constantly causing the screen to brighten and dim, over and over; enough so that, when brightened, there is a significant amount of additional detail available at the expense of contrast.

I've tried adjusting the Srgb/Enhanced display settings, playing with various brightness levels, and turning off brightness changes in response to lighting. Nothing seems to work.

This issue is incredibly distracting when watching Netflix. I'd really appreciate any responses or solutions to this problem.

Hey Alex, I just had someone from Microsoft help me. I was streaming off dramafever and using subtitles mainly. But also on Netflix.

Are you using Google Chrome by chance?

Try using a different browser, currently I am using Microsoft Edge and it is working with subtitles without the annoying constant light/dimming.

I am having the same issue, and it isn't only with Netflix. On another website like DramaFever I watch shows that are all in different languages so subtitles are needed. Any time a subtitle appears on the screen it will lighten then go dim again once they are gone. It is getting extremely aggravating and almost unwatchable at this point. Any fix to this?

I have been using google chrome to watch Netflix/Other streaming services.

I noticed this would happen when dialogue was spoken. This most recently occurred on Netflix watching Dave Chappelle special where the brightness would change when he talked. The brightness didn't react when the crowd would laugh. Brightness change would occur in Photoshop as well with background color changes, the screen would get bright by a nit or so.

    Hi,

In some cases, some video playback apps would change brightness when the mouse is moved while playing videos. The display problem you experience might be due to app or driver issues.

Have you checked if the problem is only affecting certain apps? Also, does the issue still exists when you play offline videos?

    Regards.
