Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter, Choppy Video

I'm having a serious issue where the video from my SP3 becomes very choppy when I use Microsoft's Wireless Display Adapter. There is an obvious lag as well, however I'm completely okay with that. Lag is not an issue, but choppy video is. Overall, I've found very few people who are having this same issue. Does anyone have any idea why I'm experiencing this and have a fix?

Thank you

What video card is in the Dell? What version driver?

I have updated the MWDA to the latest firmware (as of June 27th) and updated my windows 8.1 on my Dell ultrabook and the video is choppy.  I disconnected/reconnected the MWDA and rebooted the dell.

When in duplicate mode the video is smooth about 10% of the time

When in second screen only mode it is choppy all the time

This is streaming video that looks good on my Dell when not projecting.  The Video on the dell always looks good even when the same video (in duplicate mode) shows choppy....

Really? Well maybe they've updated the firmware again since I had mine. I did all the updates, resets, everything. Nothing worked. Now I've been using my Xbox One to do the same thing, and I've found the video to be much better, although still not quite as good as an HDMI connection. However, it is still in its beta testing phase, so it could very well improve.

I had exactly the same problem and now it is fixed.  Here are the things I did...

I phoned Microsoft Support for Surface Pro 3 and was patient through the interrogation until the problem was solved.  We tried many things and I'm not sure which was the actual solution but here they are:

    • I ran Windows Update and updated the Surface Pro (only 2 recent updates so it is unlikely this fixed it).
    • I ran the Microsoft wireless display app and it updated the firmware in the adapter.
    • I pressed the reset button on the wireless adapter.
    • I reconnected with the wireless adapter and voila!  Smooth Video.

    I hope this helps.

I started with two additional bits of information which were useful in that I was convinced at the outset that there was a software/configuration problem.

    1. My son's Surface 2 worked fine with the adapter.
    2. I had not updated windows for months and initially it would not connect at all.  After 1GB of updates, The Surface Pro would connect and then I had the "choppy" symptom.
