Lost my pen. Is the bluetooth always active?

I can't find my pen for my SP3 and I am trying to locate it using my surface's Bluetooth lost to see if it is in the vicinity. The computer isn't picking up any connectivity with the pen. But does the pen run its Bluetooth at all times, or is it turned on by like movement or when it contacts the surface pro??

So final question: is the surface pro pen always running its Bluetooth or is this an ineffective way to find it because it might go to sleep?

    Hello RubenGonzales88

Thanks for contacting us.  Sorry to hear you have misplaced your pen.

To attempt to locate your Surface Pen, you can view the last location it was used on your device by going to Settings > Update & Security > Find my device. In the Where's my pen? section, select Go here to track it.

If you are unsuccessful in finding your pen and would like to purchase another one, you can visit your local retailer or Store to get a replacement.

    Best regards

    Hello RubenGonzales88

Thanks for contacting us.  Sorry to hear you have misplaced your pen.

The Surface pen only emits a Bluetooth signal when in the pairing process and when the pen cap button is pressed to launch Onenote.  From the description of your situation, it sounds like this method of location would be unsuccessful.

Sorry we don't have better news for you.

Quick question.  I either lost my pen in my classroom or one of my kids ran off with it.  When I fired up my surface and went to Bluetooth setting it said  Paired to pen.  Does this mean the pen is still located in my room???  The reason I ask.  Is like a fool I didn't do a search and deleted the pairing, when all I had to do was walk out of the room to see if the setting just made the icon disappear because the pen is out of range.

As another way of going at this, how do I see the logs for when my Surface Pro pen was last connected via Bluetooth?  If I knew the last day and time when it was connected, I might be able to cross-reference that against my calendar and tell if I was at a meeting offsite that day.

did you ever have any luck? I have misplaced my pen too and I can't tell if it's connected but was hoping to "zero in" on it with my surface. it says "paired" but not "connected"... wondering if there is any way to walk around with my surface and find it, or if I'm sol!

You are probably spending a lot of time trying to find it but chances are, somebody picked it up thinking it was a regular inkpen and probably tossed it in the trash.

The Pro 4 pen will work on the Pro 3 and probably suggest to order one of those.

You need a means to secure the pen onto the tablet and not rely on the magnetic strip to do that.  Probably clip the pen in a pocket or a notebook so that it won't stray away.

There are no telltale logs to look for thee connection.  The connection is extremely brief when it does.  That is primarily used to call up OneNote and to do screenshots.  The bulk of the functions in the pen are through its built in digitizer where that communicates when the pen tip touches the touchscreen.  That part is not Bluetooth.
