Surface Camera Barcode Scanner

Hi,

So I'm hoping to recommend the Surface tablets to a company I'm working for. They need barcode scanning functionality and many mobile devices do this via the camera. There's also Microsoft .NET cored functionality to do exactly this here:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uwp/devices-sensors/pos-camerabarcode

However here it states these are the supported operating systems:

  • Windows 10 Professional in S mode
  • Windows 10 Professional
  • Windows 10 Enterprise
  • Windows 10 IOT Core

But all the surface tablets run Windows 10 Home version (even the Surface Pro).

So does anyone know how I can get this working please?

Hallo, Surface Go is a small, neat, slick device with good keyboard. I have a 8Go memory, 128Go SSD version with Windows Pro obtained through the Store. You start with Home S to Pro S with a fee, then Pro S to Pro for free … otherwise Home S to Home for free … the Store has a terrify number of QR scanner apps.

Enterprise version is possible with a bulk license from your firm, IoT is something else. The Go keeps me happy with Office 365, Adobe Lightroom CC and everything in the Cloud. So a small device with modest processor can go a long way, a Surface Pen replaces a mouse with ease … battery life is modest, five or six hours but the charger is tiny fitting in your bag or pocket.

Yes you can, but try your application on Home to see if it works. There are

applications in the Windows/Microsoft Store like

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/easy-barcode-scanner-free/9wzdncrdc2r9#activetab=pivot:overviewtab

that you can use for testing.
